I know colour choice is a very personal thing but when buying used you have to sometimes make compromises..
Is Volcano orange a popular choice in the used market? I’m guessing when it comes to painting a panel it may be a more difficult colour to match?
Would this be a more or less popular colour than Curacao Blue?
Is the Bowers and Wilkins audio massively more desireable than the 8 speaker option?

My personal opinion is that there are always plenty of white, black and grey Macs available and considerably fewer strong colours. This tells me that the demand is higher for the stronger colours. You will never go wrong with Orange on a Mac and yes the volcano colours are harder to match but not impossible.

I consider the sound system irrelevant in these cars. I have had a Mac for over a year and not played music once.

I think colour is important, just look on Autotrader and see how many black, silver and white cars are on compared to stronger colours. The strong colours do seem to go quicker. My previous car was Silica white, I didn't mind it but would've preferred something stronger but it sold ok. I'm far happier with my current car. As for VO vs CB my choice would be orange, I looked at a blue one before I bought mine but wasn't a fan of the colour but it also had hardly any carbon so that may have swayed me ?

B&W an absolute must for me, and yes to my ears it makes a difference; though mainly at lower speeds or stopped entirely.

HiFi in cars for me is a waste of time generally but B&W does make a difference, whether I'd have paid for the difference new is unlikely, even more so as mine has the MSO Titanium exhaust but with the roof up and rear glass closed it sounds OK thumbup

Yes there always seems to be a fair number of rod black and grey cars for sale, both look lovely but black is a pain to keep looking nice and I think the shape of the car is shown off better with brighter colours.

That looks lovely is that Vermillion red?

I love to play music when driving but I’ve so often been a little disappointed with the factory audio upgrade - I had a 7 series with B & W diamond surround sound that cost a small fortune, it looked the part with aluminium illuminated tweeters etc but don’t think it sounded any better than the standard HK system in my M5 that I have now.

I had a mac in VO; its a fantastic colour and contrary to current beliefs, it's not difficult at all to match.

Curacao Blue in the flesh is also stunning.

Cars in these colours usually sell very quickly; mines sold on the day of advertising privately.

Now I like a white car, but when I mentioned it to the McLaren sales team there was a sharp intake of breath suggesting white and to a slightly lesser extent grey were poor choices, perhaps evidenced by the number of white cars that seem to be for sale with non franchised dealers for ages. Black I don't like as it hides the contours of the car (as does grey) in my eyes.

I'd have taken a white car (personal choice) but once I saw VO my mind was made up.

On the audio front the McLaren seems to have appalling radio reception in both DAB and FM to the extent that on a long distance trip it was unusable! I only really have the radio on for background but was forced to use audio from my phone which through the standard audio was OK for me. I'll use a radio streaming app in future if McLaren can't improve the radio reception. Whilst I've heard it's because of the carbon tub, I've had another car with a carbon tub before and that had perfect reception.

Spec is very personal and buying secondhand its all about compromises. I had extended leather in my GT4 but when I sold it to try a Boxster it didn't have a leather dash. I don't ever recall sitting in the Boxster wishing it had one. There's no carbon fibre trim in my McLaren and it doesn't bother me at all.

There's been quite a few threads discussing colour/soec of varying models.

Audio wouldn't personally bother me, but for some, b&w is a must have.

The vibrant colours have always been more desirable across the range, as you say, the classifieds are littered with whites/greys and blacks...although there will be one member along shortly to tell you they sold their whote 12c for a premium so we are all wrong, cool story bro wink

There are some caveats to the white/black thing as Mclaren do some heavily flaked colours which buck the trend a little and are very very nice.

Interesting question about colours ... herewith a summary of the colour of all the McLarens currently for sale on Autotrader ...

Clearly for each car now advertised, a new purchaser chose that colour for their new car ...

The Pink one is a wrap. and is certainly a very 'individual' choice of colour.

I suspect it won't sell quickly at that price.

B&W yes - but for a dedicated media room (800 diamond-based system here).

It’s a bit silly to spend more on a sound system in a supercar with an 80db floor.

A lot of those would have been specced for stock by Mclaren so not necessarily ordered

Declaring an interest as I own a white McLaren, albeit a 600LT, but have to confess white (along with black and grey) wasn’t on my list of preferences initially. I wanted something that stood out and gave a great contrast to all the black external carbon parts. End of the day, you don’t get a better contrast than black / white so I was an easy convert.

I’ve got the 12 speaker B&W system. I’m not too much of a HiFi geek but do stream music in the car. I’d say it’s alright, but not sure I’d notice if it was whatever the standard is so personally wouldn’t be fussed but it does seem to be more common with the higher speced cars anyhow.

My first 650 had the basic audio. The current one has the posh version.

I'd say it is noticeable better than my first car. But the premium audio in the Aston I had a few years back was better

I'd expect more soundproofing in an Aston which will contain the sound.

Having 'experienced' premium audio over several manufacturers I've come to the conclusion if I was buying new I wouldn't pay the extra. Buying secondhand the premium audio wouldn't sway me on its own.
