Considering a d3/d4/touregv6/rangev8tdi
Discussion
Hi all I'm in the process of selling my defender 90 xs puma 2.4, mint condition (as far as they go) and considering buying something roughly half the price (rest of money going towards something fast as I'm selling my daily driver also. So I want another 4x4 more family friendly than the 90, considering late immaculate disco 3s & disco4s, is there any years which the cranks aren't prone to snapping 😅 or do i need to look into similar age range rovers with the v8 tdi? Do they snap cranks? Also what are the other issues? Turbos? I know most of the non engine issues.
Also considering a Toureg 3.0v6 tdi, or if all else fails a 2009 ish land cruiser or td5 110 defender 😁. Are the range rovers much worse for faults? Sorry for all the questions! Tia!

Land cruiser. They're like a comfy defender with added reliability. Enough truck character, but you know it won't be getting picked up on a low loader.
Biggest down side is LRs look better and Toyota only got reasonably close 150 series onwards. The 120 is a bit bobby and the full fat V8 diesels are out of your price range.
Personally I'd keep the puma for free motoring and buy a cheaper fast toy.

Thanks for the replies
So the puma sold for strong money - it was a cracking example so was slightly sad to see it go
Ill miss it! It was good to me to be honest!
I'm considering the og bmw m2 - I have a tvr s2 I could possible sell if it meant a higher budget ie around 17 for a land cruiser I could then get around a 12 13 plate with 90k ish miles- anygood? Not sure i understand the 120 150 etc with LC yet but I do end up learning a lot before committing usually!
My mk7 golf is worth about 7 to 8k as is the tvr
So budget about 22 to 23 for an og m2 privately bought/sold
I could afford a near new land cruiser but don't want to commit that much cash tbh!

I have a 2006 land cruiser and a 2018 diesel Touareg 3.0 v6.
The land cruiser has been the perfect dog car and goes absolutely anywhere. It is very comfy, very wallowy and in most ways very boring. However I have had it for 10 years now and it has never let me down in any significant way.
The bad news is that it a total rust backet now and won't make it through another MOT. I'm gutted but it is what is is.
The Touareg on the other hand is an astonishing bit of kit. Surprisingly fast (I have a suspicion it has been remapped), very solid, excellent road manners, modern, quiet, comfy and roomy.
Personally I think land cruisers are massively over priced.
Unless you are doing serious off roading the Touareg is a better car in pretty much every way.
But if you need a car that will get you anywhere in any conditions the Landcruiser is the one to go for. Just don't expect it to be exciting.
