My 2018 Discovery had to have a replacement engine at 55K miles in December 2022 due to poor compression in one cylinder.
2 1/2 years later and now at 77K miles (total) the replacement engine now needs replacing for the exact same reason!

All servicing has been by Land Rover dealerships within the specified intervals.

Land Rover are refusing any assistance with this £15K repair; does anyone have similar experience? I cant believe that Land Rover consider that an engine should fail after 20,300 miles and have no responsibility.

Its the 2 litre Diesel engine- I understand there's a lot of history of problems with these, which suggests poor design or inherent defects. How can JLR just walk away?

Thanks

Nothing unusual. Best you might get a is a contribution from LR, but I have heard that indy rebuilds are now £8k, so I'd just get that done and sell it before you need a third.

The problems all started around 2014 I believe, when JLR stated cost cutting, and particularly afflicts the 2 litre diesel Ingenium engine in the Discovery Sprout, F Pace etc.

If you have the time for a 112 page read, here's the master thread on the ingenium engine problems.

The original poster writes (and spells) really well and illustrates his posts with great photos.
This thread has a lot of contributions from JLR employees and experienced mechanics, so is well worth reading.
The issue is crap build quality.

I believe there are class law actions starting/going on against Jaguar LandRobber, so it may be worth a bit of an internet trawl to find and join one.

Many other manufacturers' problems started when they all suddenly managed to get an extra 10 mpg out of their cars, and hence lower emissions. Notably between 2010 and 2012. Hence all the class actions going on regarding cars of that era and emissions cheat devices.
