I actually do have mates, the only problem is that none of them are that interested in cars or motorsport (I should probably find new friends).

Does anyone do Le Mans on their own? And meet up with people at Calais/Folkestone for the thrash down to Le Mans?
And basically drink their own bodyweight in cheap French beer and eat endless baguettes for the weekend.
Or is this what the Pistonheads Campsite is all about.

I went a few years ago with a bunch of Masers but that now gone a bit 'invite only'. I also don't have a Maserati any more.

I want to start going again, but would prefer to do it with a group of likeminded individuals.
As they say, strangers are friend you've not met yet.

I went on my own one year, booked my ticket 3 or so days before having to leave.

I arrived and checked in, within 20 mins I was offered a beer from a group, who i ended up spending the entire weekend with, either outside their motorhome with a TV running, or track side when we ventured out. There were about 8 of us in total, the motorhome was just 2 lads who invited others over.

Within the first few hours one of them broke the TV with a glass bottle, this must have been common for them, as they had 2 spare TV's. One of them also fell off the motorhome whilst trying to adjust the sat dish.

I even met up with a few of them a few years later when I went with a different group, sat and had a few beers post race.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend it, you'll make some friends. I also remember someone posting a few years ago similar (albeit closer to the race!) and a few people offered to convoy down, or be 'race friends' once at the track.

Done a few trips solo, like you because you hit fallow years where none of your friends can/want to go.

I think the first time I posted on here asking if anyone else was solo a week or so before the race and there were a good number up for a beer. Tried to meet up with one guy...who turned out to be about 8 pitches down in the same row/same campsite as me smile

We ebb and flow in terms of numbers who attend.

I think our group is an amalgamation of 3 groups now!!

We were 15 in total this year, more last year and then a lot fewer the year before.

More than happy for more to join - I think next year may well be a low attendance year, but you never know!!!

We tend to arrive from Tuesday, Wed, Thurs and Fri and then some leave on Sunday and some leave on Monday. Mosty camping in Epinettes and usually a grandstand seat, typically T17 or sometimes T18.

We're a bit international - most are brits, but we've had one or two Aussies and currently someone from the US who comes along. It's just a good bit of fun and an excellent motor race.

PM me if interested.

I did it on my own this year; none of my previous group were up for it. Personally, I embraced the time alone. I've spent the last year at work dealing with incompetent people's fk-ups, while at home I have four kids under 7, with all the demands for attention that entails. That said, if you do want to make some new friends, it would clearly be a doddle - pretty much everyone I did interact with was amiable and you've obviously got a common interest with other spectators to break the ice over.

Done the 100 years 24 hour on my own, and this time was on my own for the drive to Athens, gf did not fancy Bosnia Serbia or Macedonia :-)
This year doing the Classic meeting up with people in Palmero then onto Valetta
Never stay at the campsites, stay at apartments and get the tram in

hehe

A few people I know come together and form an 'international' group - as they are mostly single people coming from all over the globe. That works well.

Will do. Camping will be a new thing for me as well. Would have to buy a tent, and sleeping bag etc....

One of mine is now a teenager. Girl. The other one is eigth (last year he had his first Le Mans), other than that, I can entirely subscribe each and every single word.

Still I had to open my laptop for a few hours each day, but even with that, after some extremely stressful last few years, these 4 days on my own have changed or reset many many things.

You obviuosly can get a bit nostalgic here and there -I missed the kid, who at 8 can follow the race and grab some details better than I do XD- and racing him down the Hunaudieres. But being there on my own, is something I am glad I have done at least once. Different experience.

If nest year I had to choose stay at home or go back there alone, I take the second one. Would probably try to socialize a bit more than this year, which as other said is incredibly easy, if you are in the mood for it.

Did a couple pre-covid as most of group prefer LM Classic.

If you can stretch to private camping that has trackside viewing, a bar and a marquee with TV s etc it makes it much easier to chat and have a beer etc whilst watching track action some of time without the complications of group trips to circuit and grandstands etc

Always take own camping stuff but is a squeeze but can do pre-erected tents or glamping/bell tents with mattresses etc

Haven’t done on own in last 3 or 4 busy years- two plus groups definitely much better for saving space and getting beers/food and toilet breaks etc as it seems it’s much harder now to wander round and get good viewing at loads of places as you go. We now watch more from GS and ACO area as well as trackside camping and inside at Porsche curves.

I'm very comfortable on my own - sometimes prefer it.

BUT, went in 2008 (after first going with groups from 2003 onwards) on my Jack and ended up meeting 4 lads on the Friday evening who have now become lifelong friends. For one of them I built a business relationship too. Another one now lives 8 minutes away since we moved 'up north' two years ago - thick as thieves these days!

I have never been, largely due to having no mates who are interested. It sounds like I need to put my big boy pants on and just do it.

Indeed. I suspect the best option would be to arrive early (eg. Tuesday/Wednesday) as then the camps are fairly empty and people there already are likely to be long termers happy to give a newbie some hints.
