Dragons Dogma - Dark Arisen
Discussion
Having finished Elden Ring - including the DLC - I needed a new open world game. I played Skyrim a long time ago so that wasn't an option.
I tried Kingdom Come : Deliverance (the first one) - but it's just too much like hard work. Not just the lock picking - although that does get easier once your skill improves - but it's time to sleep / wash / eat etc. It's tiresome.
The first Dragons Dogma was only £3.95 on PS Store so thought I'd give that a go and downloaded it last night.
There are a few issues - it is definitely of its time. The graphics are definitely more PS3 than PS4, let alone PS5 - my character sometimes disappears "into" the thing I'm fighting - and there is fairly dreadful pop up as you get close to things that were in the distance. It also seems to be a bit dumb - i.e. if I travel down a road that I've travelled down before, exactly the same enemies will be there in exactly the same place doing exactly the same thing - even though I've previously killed them. That tends to be a bit annoying.
However, it does seem quite playable and I enjoyed it last night. There are obviously a lot of side missions - I've already done a couple and there are still a few on my list, and that's without really even trying to find any. I think it may be a game that keeps me busy for quite a while.
Assuming I continue to enjoy it, Dragons Dogma II was only released recently and I assume that will be a big jump forward in quality.
Worth a try for anybody who likes these kind of games but hasn't tried it.
