Hi all,

Starting a new job working from home and need a monitor and keyboard/mouse for my new MacBook Air. I’ll be editing stories and checking pages so doesn’t need to be anything fancy so thinking a budget of £200 max. Would it make sense to get a monitor with a Thunderbolt/USB-C port to match the Air? Also, I’m guessing any Mac-compatible Bluetooth keyboard will do?

I saw this monitor at Curry’s online for £174 which is the same brand as the one in my present job - VIEWSONIC VG2709-2K-MHDU-2 Quad HD 27" LED Monitor.

And keyboard - LOGITECH Pebble 2 MK380 Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Set.

Any recommendations/advice much appreciated.

Thanks

I d recommend looking for a monitor with power pass-through on USB-C, so you only need one cable to drive the monitor and power the MacBook air, through one USB-C socket. I use a widescreen Dell, but there will be other options

With the right monitor, keyboard and mouse can be connected to the monitor, but Apple wireless Magic Keyboard and mouse are more convenient

For my work mac, at home I have Dell monitors (1xhdmi,1vga) and a dock. At work, the cheapest 27inch monitor off Amazon.

I then have an apple trackpad and apple keyboard in both locations.

I wouldn’t scrimp on the trackpad/ keyboard as these make the Mac far better imho.

I have this in my home office for my M3 15" MBA (work) and my M4 Mac Mini (personal)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Plus-Monitor-Built-D...

Would highly recommend, it's a superb monitor. If you can stretch to that; go for it...

My MBA is connected via USB C to HDMI; my Mini via USB C to DP

Ideally go 5K but that said I get on fine with a 4K 27” hooked up to my MacBook Air M1. A usbc monitor is ideal as no faffing with dongles and you can usually charge the MacBook from it too.

Make sure it is at least 4k or the difference in resolution will be annoying, usb c pass through is handy as you can power the mac book air and send the display to it with one socket.
Also enough resolution to split the screen into two if it supports that, my Dell one does.
