After a four hour band rehearsal today, the little finger on my right hand has become a bit painful. It's not unbearable pain, but the finger feels slightly numb and it aches a bit when I bend it. I guess you could say it feels like it's bruised, but it doesn't appear to be.

I've had this feeling for a couple of weeks now. It tends to fade away after a couple of days if I don't play, and then it comes back again. Could this be RSI or just some bruising under the surface?

How about RSI in the eyes? My previously 20:20 vision is somewhat crap after a year of all day at a computer and sometimes in the evening. Will I recover?

I love Jazz-style "noodling."

Maybe I'll try and itnroduce a bit of a swing feel to my bands' current arsenal of storming vocal metal/rock songs.

I have a black t-shirt with the Appetite for Destruction album cover on the front. That's pretty loud!

Although "they" claim PC work doesnt damage the eyes, I think it does. I left the Navy back in 75, and got a job offshore in the diving industry. For the next few years I used to sit at my control consul checking depth gauges approximately 18" (" means inches, about 450 mm for the new guys), and my eyes quickly deteriorated, I am now on my 3rd prescription.

Eyes are designed to be resting at infinity, thats why they say when your using a PC, now and again, look away at something in the distance. There is on record a lad who was evacuated from London during the Blitz to a farm somewhere, (he wore glasses), during the next few years on the farm, the majority of his vision was long distance, his eyes got better. My brother who wore glases for all his young life, now drives buses, his eyes recovered, and he no longer wears glasses.

So to recap, I believe working PC,s all day will affect your eyes, and yes they may get better if you change you occuption. And watch out for the RSI as well, a lot of typist suffer from that these days.

Refer to one of my posts regarding "wierd pain thing in hands" - turned out to be muscle deteriation caused by repetative strain injury caused by typing and believe it or not, overdoing it by going to karate 4 - 5 times a week as well.

Going from sedate typring to punching pads / throwing people etc caused problems - had a few weeks of physio and told to pace myself and all is getting good.

So pace yourself with the playing and stop before your thumb area even starts to feel slightly tired - if you are feeling tired with it, its too late.

Also get one of those hand excerciser things (the grip ones) - they do a very good job at sorting thsi stuff out. I believe Podie knows his stuf with this as well (Ergonomist) - his advice helped me out greatly.
