My dear old Nanna left a little bag in her cupboard with a wrapped up £2 gold coin for me to find after her death (had a note to say it was for me)

It has sat in my safe for 20 years and seems a waste. I looked up the spot weight value for gold but it seems that a 1986 coin may be worth more than its standard weight. I have seen wildly differing values and wondered where to start to value it and maybe sell it?

The “we buy gold” companies will be a rip off so am looking for a trusted valuer / dealer.

Or send backyard bullion an email and sell through the buyers club.

Both are excellent.

As it's a coin, have a word with Spinks in London, WC2 I think. Holborn area. They'll give you an indication over the phone.

Out of stock but Bullion by post (quite expensive) list it here

https://www.bullionbypost.co.uk/proof-sets/proof-2...

With it being 15.98 grams it'll be somewhere between £1200 and the above figure

Chards might also be able to give a good indication of market value.

Thank You all. I did have a look at who was selling - I appreciate there will be a bid / offer spread due to their profit margin but around £1200 I would be happy with.

I read somewhere that some 1986 stuff is worth more due to this being the first yr of the £2?

Weighton Coin Wonders might also be worth a try.

Did you try Hatton Garden EC1 ? (London). Loads of reputable shops there.

I have started to email all the contacts in this thread, thanks.

I could venture up to Hatton Garden but every trip to London relieves me of hundreds of £ and lots of time so hopefully don’t need to go up there.
