You must pick one - which one do you think will hold it's value best long term?

Lambo - just. I woudn't fancy the e-gear, but that spec and that name, the engine.... close but I'd be having that.

On those, would running costs not be bigger than depreciation?

They’ve already depreciated in the main, pick whichever you prefer and get a specialist inspection, the flaws are well known.

The Gallardo stopped depreciating many years ago and I believe will hold its value better.

Lamborghini will hold its value better. I’d choose the McLaren though.

As above but in reality as much as I like the 570 I'd be buying a 12C/650S

Me too. Nice engine in the Lambo but I think the McLaren is in a different class/generation as a driving machine (esp. as the Gallardo referenced is an E Gear).

The automated manuals of that era definitely need checking out before you commit!

Neither - I'd look for a manual Gallardo!

Some say, 5.2 is a much stronger engine? More fuel efficient too.

I was here and picked the McLaren. That was mostly based on reading road tests, backed up with a long weekend in a hired 570S (could have been that actual car tbh). Two years later and no regrets, the way it drives always puts a big smile on my face, especially the steering feel and way it goes around corners.

I guess the Gallardo will probably be worth more, but I'm not clear if this will offset the likely maintenance costs.

For me if I can afford either, I'd always pick based on which one I'll enjoy more, not on uncertain financial forecasts.

Both cars will have £10k of dealer margin in that price and it's the manual Gallardos which will have value in the long term. I'd say it would be several years at least before you yourself might obtain the current asking price when you sell...

A manual Gallardo coupe bought privately has a lot more upside but in any case out of those 3 options, it would be £3-5k per year as a hobby expense and any increase in the car's value is a small bonus.
