Hi All,

Looking at choosing between these 2 cars.

I've asked the question on the AM side so thoughts it's only fair to ask the contingent here..

Thanks in advance

Recently acquired a Roma and love it , never tried the dbs as it has zero appeal to me (although I have owned several astons ) , so can’t comment I’m sure it’s very good though and ultimately you should try both before deciding .

I have not driven either and would normally take the Ferrari, but in this instance I think I would lean towards the Aston. I guess the Roma will feel more sporty (I assume it is quite a bit lighter), but the Aston is better looking imo and has a V12.

Considered a DBS shortly after launch, but it was a no from me based on the inability to get the power down, with issues even in dry conditions. Possibly could be improved with better tyres? Shame as it really ruined what was otherwise a nice package imo.

Just don’t understand the comparison, is it because Roma looks Aston esque? For same budget would be looking at Ferrari V12, F12 or 812, depreciation gone and a V12 that drives like a sports car.

Its more of a budget driven decision, for circa 130k cant get a f12 with decent miles.

Because that’s what he fancies which is the only important matter surely ?

I'm a bit biased but would go DBSS everytime just for the V12 engine, it drives v well for a front engined GT car and is a stunning looking vehicle. Never had any issues with putting power down throttle modulation goes along way mine runs on MPS4Ss which undoubtedly helps.

Ok thought they were both in the £150k/£160k range, have not looked for awhile.

Wow, Romas have got into the 120s quickly. I would also look at F12 if you can at all bridge the gap, I reckon it'll lose less than a Roma during your ownership.

I think anyone paying £130k for a Roma needs their bumps felt.

How so , it’s done its big whack of depreciation. I just bought at that sort of price, a two year old Roma for less than a new normal 911 it’s a great buy , and will depreciate less than an Aston and having watched the market for a while the price has steadied .The incoming new one will be a £250k car which will help the values as well .5 years free servicing and 2 years warranty , it makes sense .

Is there a known incoming new one? I’m a bit out of touch.

Correct new one coming back end of year, 700hp + if that’s important anymore. Agree with comments above, find the extra and get a F12 in this price bracket, as the Roma will just follow California pricing Portofino pricing scale. F12 is on another level of car to a Roma or Aston SL.

I like the Roma and the Roma spider is apparently better to drive as its extra weight in the rear corrects a bit of waywardness (my only experience in the Roma was 24 hours in the rain and it was a bit wayward). But I'd have an F12 if at all possible. Another dimension. Also more likely to kill you but that's another thing.

Having seen Maura’s post above, I googled a bit. Yes I would really like a brand new Ferrari with the warranty, free servicing etc and might be tempted to chop in my two current cars so it could be virtually a no cash cost transaction. But……given that there will be an oversupply of the new model (the Amalfi apparently) as people are “encouraged “ to buy them to get on the list for the next gazillion pound special, I don’t think I could stomach the depreciation, looking not just at Romas and Portofinos but also what has happened to 296s.

You get the balance of free servicing on a used Roma and portofino and 2 years warranty if you buy from Ferrari dealer I have another 5 years free servicing on the one I just bought so buying used is a very attractive proposition especially as a 2-3 year old car will have done its big depreciation bit .

I drove the Roma at a Ferrari event, I did not like those haptic buttons on the steering wheel at all.

Having lived around both for a fair amount of time I would choose the Roma.

The DBS SL is a beautiful car but it is big and really hard to use in daily life. The Roma may not be a V12 or a V8 you want in the eyes of many but its looks wicked, fast, comfortable and easy to drive. Also.. it doesn't look like a Ferrari so you don't feel under the magnifying glass.
