we are still on the old style meter and recently tried to get the meter readings.
display shows nothing at all no matter how many combinations of the 2 buttons i try.

So, is the meter knackered or somehow could EDF block access remotely to force us on to a 'smart' meter?

we had overhead lines changed 6+ years ago and still have the remote reader on the exterior which used to get read but TBH i cant remember the last time i actually read the meter myself.

anyone had similar issues or am i going to have to submit and swap?

From what I remember of our old meter (before the smart meter was installed) it was just one button press to get the reading. Have you tried looking on line for the make and model of the meter? It does sound as though it's either knackered or has been disabled by EDF, surprised it hasn't been changed for a smart meter by now, ours was done around 2016 and had no trouble at all with it and could retrieve more stats.

I had a similar issue with an old gas meter that had a LCD display where the display faded away over time and made it unreadable. I thought it may have been a battery issue but the gas company just replaced it with a mechanical one.

I really should have noted the details before I left.....along with removing the bin bag containing a half empty packet of Roquefort 🙄.

From memory the display was always on but I may be dreaming.
It's a 3 phase meter with 2 grey buttons, one I know is defilement, the other I can't remember.

The problem with having a smart meter is I'd like to be there to get the meter read before it's fitted and planning to get a date that suits both parties.

Time for a few emails and won't be holding my breath as the French seem to take longer to reply than sending a letter...
