I’m looking to move on my 2024 x3 m40i , Lovley car but looking to get a nice t6/6.1 camper .

This would leave 8-10k for a fast fun daily car.

Had a drive in a Porsche Cayman S Tiptronic S this afternoon and loved it so thinking what else there might be for that 8-10k price range - commute is only going to be 5/6 miles each way in a few weeks time .

Any suggestions or recommendations for a fun daily driver at that price range much appreciated

I’ve only ever had hot hatches prior to the x3

I'd hire a camper first and see if it works for you. A transporter sized camper is a compromise on space - its nothing more than a £40k metal tent.

Avoid the bi-turbo engines unless it’s the very latest 6.1 DMZA, the 150’s are the pick of the bunch (CXFA, CXHA, DNAA)

T28’s always have saggy bottoms, T30 and T32 make better campers.

Try and get one with factory led headlamps.

Factor in the usual cambelt, water pump and dsg services.

Avoid Barry’d up vans with Chinese coilovers and incorrect load rated wheels/tyres.

EGR coolers and valves are pretty much a consumable item, allow for a flush and/or replacement.

Get an awning rail fitted, drive-away awnings give you so much more space and somewhere to shelter when the weather is crap.

We love ours, many happy trips away and spur of the moment one-nighters.

A metal tent that provides lots of awesome trips, family memories and ad hoc days out.

Enjoy the best of both OP.
I considered an SLK500 to go with my T5.1

In a camper form, ours did but with two growing kids it eventually became too small. Ripped the interior out, installed a kombi setup with a bed and its absolutely brilliant now. Can still camp in it but now seats 6, sleeps 4 and has enough space behind the rear seats for a pallet of stuff/bikes/fishing gear/everything you could imagine you'd want to take on holiday. Had ours 11 years and its a keeper but the space is a compromise (eventually)...

I'd echo Mark on avoiding the 204 BiTurbo on the camper. I sold my 540i xDrive for a BiTurbo T6 camper. I loved vanlife but the engine was made of cheese and I saw more dashboard lights than campsites. I'm looking for another campervan but I'm avoiding VW all together.

MX5!

More to the point, 8-10k to spend, can you cope with 2 seats? Not sure it's clear. If so ZX's suggestions are on the money as usual, give or take I'd think about an i3 with your miles, or even a Honda-E, depending on your idea of fun. I mean you can seemingly have anything from a kit car to a 7-series, depending on what you think is "fun".

I'd probably add an Up GTi, and a Swift Sport to consider, bit plasticky though, or an older Clio RenaultSport as prices have been lifting, despite age and running cost increases, as their handling is top drawer. Even a Civic Type R EP3, although rust.

Tell us what you think is fun, and/ or any other requirements...
