In my younger days I used to chuckle about rapper Warren G's lyrical goof in his song, 'What's Next?' when he spells the word 'next' as "N-X-E-T". It's believed that he was freestyling in that part of the song and decided to keep it in. In more recent music, Cleo Sol's grammar could benefit with some proofreading in the song 'Promises' when she sings, "...you was the one who said "believe in love"".

More famously, the song 'Golden Brown' by The Stranglers is interpreted as having an association with heroin and a woman.

Shaggy's 'It Wasn't Me' usually gets most dance floors jumping with everyone singing the chorus in unison. It's a song about cheating. Shaggy has clarified that it's not a song promoting infidelity but about a man caught cheating who's seeking advice from him. Shaggy tells him to deny everything despite the evidence.

Next up, Billy Paul's 'Me and Mrs Jones' is a song which tells the story of an illicit affair. The same suggestion is made in Whitney Houston's 'Saving All My Love' where the story is told of a woman in love with a man who is already married and has a family. Nothing really that sinister, right?

Tom Jones' "Delilah" tells a story of a man who is confronted by the infidelity of his girlfriend, leading to a brutal act of violence. The song depicts the man spying on his girlfriend, seeing her with another man, and then killing her.

What about Inner Circle's 'Sweat'?

"Girl I want to make you sweat
"sweat till you can't sweat no more
"and if you cry out
"I'm gonna push it some, more," followed by plenty of hip-thrusting, "A la la la la long, a la la la la long long li long long long".

Some say it's a song about passionate sex, others argue it's about changing at Baker Street.

Elvis Presley - Kissing Cousins. "She's a distant cousin but she's not too distant with me".

'Age Ain't Nothing But a Number' by Aaliyah in 1994 told its own story over the years since its release.

In the the lyrics of Francine by ZZ Top, the narrator sings, "My Francine just turned 13, she's my angelic teenage queen and I love her..."

The lyrics to Sister by Prince are, um, interesting.... Here.

Night Prowler by AC/DC comes to mind. One of my favourites by them, but not necessarily radio friendly!

'Pumped Up Kicks' is played all the time including in TV and radio adverts, despite the lyrics being about school shootings...

Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room, but won't tell you his plan
He's got a rolled cigarette
Hanging out his mouth, he's a cowboy kid, yeah

He found a six-shooter gun
In his dad's closet, and with a box of fun things
I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You better run, better run faster than my bullet

'Every Breath You Take' by The Police seems to be often used as a sweet romantic song, but it's actually about possessive relationships and jealousy...

Great Song but, agree, imagine someone coming up with that theme today!

Rod Stewart's 'Tonight's the Night' is another!

Indeed, it was banned by the BBC, finally got an airing on a Rod Stewart live thing about 6 months ago. He said it was the first time the BBC had "allowed" it (or maybe he just did it to annoy anyway).

The drummer from The Vapors is now the Mayor of Guildford.

Not many people know that.

Don't Stand So Close To Me - The Police

Given that Sting was a teacher, the lyrics make one wonder...

lyrics said:
Young teacher, the subject
Of schoolgirl fantasy
She wants him so badly
Knows what she wants to be
Inside her there's longing
This girl's an open page
Book marking - she's so close now
This girl is half his age

Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
Don't stand, don't stand so
Don't stand so close to me
etc...

And Orgasm Addict, The Buzzcocks, though it's not particularly hidden.
