Hi folks, quick question, a couple of years ago the council permanently closed a country lane by me, which most didn’t know about until they tried to use it, everyone bar some local farmers were unable to use the road.
For the farmers to be able to use it the council gave them the key to the lock on the barrier which they put across the road, after a few months this barrier was vandalised & was unable to be closed so it was left permanently open.
Now the council is going ahead with closing this road again only this time it will be closed to all, no exceptions except for pedestrians, cyclists & horses.
My question is if the council permanently close a road should there be signs stating it is closed as at the moment there none from when it was first closed & still none. .
TIA.

I wonder if it was always technically a bridleway and the council are simply enforcing its designation.

How does it appear on the OS map?

There is a statutory procedure under the HIghways Act . I remember this as my first ever appearnce in court was to make such an applicatiion- back then it was an application to the magistrates court - a lgecay of different times I guess. . Needs to be public advert , and I think signs on site, consitlation with landowners ang gas , leccy etc .

At the moment it looks to me like a typical 1 post, new member, BS thread, unless the o/p comes back and names the road.

Looking on Google Maps there was ‘no through road’ signs at one end (July 2021) and a dead end road sign with ‘No turning facilities 1/2 mile ahead (July 2024) at the other.

Consultation here:
https://bradford.moderngov.co.uk/mgConsultationDis...

Looks like they ran the consultation from 2nd May to 27th May.

Annoying if you used it, but seems to be all above board and signposted
