I hardly ever use my GoPro and always look after the ones I’ve had when I do, never get them wet, never bashed etc. but they never seem to work for more than a couple of years before developing some irritating electronic fault, error message or more likely stop working altogether.

I’ve had three now and my first two broke after roughly a couple of years so I’m thinking of selling my Hero 10 Black while it’s working fine and before it inevitably breaks.

Is it just me or are these things really unreliable?

I don t think it is you, the general consensus is that GoPro seem to be failing. I had the same, my Hero7 just seemed to stop working reliably one day. So after reading a few things online about their sub-par reliability, I decided to switch to DJI Actions and haven t looked back. Admittedly managed to smash one of them not long after getting it, so very easy decision to put their care package on its replacement (covers accidental damage too) and fingers crossed they ve been superb. Pretty much now a DJI convert now.

Take a look at the DJI stuff. Really easy to use, superb quality and a lot of the accessories will be interchangeable.

Interested in alternatives to as I stopped buying GoPro for same reasons.

Another thing I thought crap was that you couldn’t connect a remote mic via Bluetooth, can you with the DJI?
I have their minipro 4 drone and their service has been fantastic, no matter what country I’m in vs where I purchased it originally, so would definitely look at thheir action cam as an alternative

I think you’ve just been unlucky. I’m using my gopro 11 and it gets treated badly, used in water, sea, been skiing, been dropped more times than i care to remember, my 5yr old gets to play with it, drops it…… and it still works perfectly!

Ive had GoPros for many years, mainly out of necessity rather than my admiration of the brand or product.

They have to be among the least reliable and most flakey electronic items I’ve ever owned.

I occasionally use my GoPro 11 when scuba diving, if it doesn’t overheat underwater that is…

wobble Not dived for a very long time, long enough that it was still in the era of glowing wire torches that liked to set fire to themselves and anything next to them if not immersed. How st must it be to overheat underwater? rofl

I have had some iffy quality too over the years, and the app was appalling at times.

I noticed Joe Achilles posted up the other day and it wasn't an ad that he had swapped out to DJI Osmo 5's. From the one clip he posted too it looked like the lenses were all interchangeable for different work.

Yeah, looking at most professional youtubers they now use DJI products, the last decent Gopro was probably the Session, not sure why they got rid of that small form factor.

Another benefit with DJI is that you can easily synch the lapel mics direct to the camera's for better audio.

I've had an Action 4 for the past couple of years and it's worked fine, had a Gopro Hero 8 previously which had a habit of loosing trackday footage due to overheating and freezing.

I’ve had a 6 which was utterly reliable and upgraded to a 9 which was also absolutely fine. The batteries swelled up after a lot of use so I used that as excuse to get a 13 which as also bee fine so far. It’s been mountaineering, skiing, scuba diving and suckered to the outside of my car with no issues whatsoever. Maybe I’ve just been lucky…….
