WW1 plaques found in Essex scrapyard
Discussion
You have to wonder how much nicked stuff passes through iffy scrapyards each year, despite the mesures to stop this sort of scumbaggery. Fair play to whoever phoned it in to the police.

The names are hard to read as the photo of one of the plaques isn t clear, but a quick search on the CWGC web site pulled up 2 possible matches for one of the Royal Navy casualties.
HMS Faulknor suffered damage by a mine, which likely caused death the following day.

IMO a more heinous crime than the sycamore tree.
I would certainly agree. And for what? Scrap value divided between at least 7 people?
Notable also that the witness is afraid to be identified presumably for fear of reprisals.
What do you do with people like this? My first thought is something way ott but relevant like drowning in cold oily water, but back in the real world?
From this article it seems a scrap dealer knew it was obviously stolen, but bought it anyway to save it and then called the police and gave them his CCTV:

There was a WW2 memorial plaque taken from our local park a while ago. It beggars belief what some people think is acceptable behaviour.
Ours was attempted to be pinched, some clever bloke 3d scanned it and 3d printed a plastic one to stop it being pinchedSad stuff
