Skoda Octavia vRS PD170
Discussion
Been a while since I created a thread, but I’m pretty happy with my newest purchase so here we go!
I sold my Hyundai I20N last year and replaced it with a Seat Leon Fr Tdi, it was a bit of a panic purchase but I did grow to appreciate not only it’s economy and actually the way it drove as well.
It was a 3 door however, and with 2 children was proving to be a bit of a pain in the arse. I’ve been looking for something similar but bigger and ideally a bit more fun to replace it with.
I spotted this Octavia on Autotrader, about 4 hours away from me in Norfolk!
It immediately jumped out by being a one owner car, with a good MOT history and full service history. Also, I liked the colour and it wasn’t being sold from Birmingham.
So with nothing better to do I got in the car at 5am and drove over to the dealer for opening time.
Immediately I noticed 4 almost new and matching Bridgestone tyres, which basically convinced me to buy it there and then!
A walkaround showed it was generally in great condition apart from some minor marks on the bonnet and a dent in the rear quarter. I also noticed at this point it had optional extra xenon headlamps, auto lights and wipers and sat nav. Looking the original brochure the previous owner spent over 10% of the cars original cost on these! Alongside a folder literally bursting with a receipt for every service and repair, it just screamed it was a well looked after car.
The only odd thing was the rear exhaust box was missing, which I can only assume meant it fell off and as it’s a diesel contributed nothing to the noise, so was left off!
A deal was done and I drove 4 hours back home, very happy with impulsive purchase!
(Photos to come, as for some reason it won’t let me upload any right now!)

Not wanting to sound like a pedant it has the CR170 engine (IE the dieselgate engine) not the PD.
These (when running the pre-dieselgate map) are cracking engines. I had a Golf GTD with it years ago and was excellent.
Haha yes, I’ve just realised that after some more research this morning. How embarrassing! These (when running the pre-dieselgate map) are cracking engines. I had a Golf GTD with it years ago and was excellent.
