Bird droppings
Discussion
Haven't paged through all the subjects in this sub-section but I'm in need of some advice re-the above. Had to park my car yesterday near to but not under a tree, went out this morning and there were two huge dollops on the bonnet so I soaked some tissues in water and left them on for an hour or so. This softened the droppings and I managed to get them off BUT they've left a visible mark in the metallic blue paintwork, can't feel anything using my finger tip but certainly a visible mark.. I tried some Maguires wax but this didn't do anything, also tried some insect remover but same result. Anybody know what I can do other than T-Cut the whole bonnet?

Bizarrely enough I watched a smart repairer get bird lime marks out with a hot air gun. A hairdryer may work, worth a try, just don't get it too hot. Thanks both. I was a bit rushed earlier but did manage to find the thread from 2018 regarding this and I have tried the hairdryer method to no avail so have just bought some Autoglym Paint Renovator from Halfords which the chap with the Aston said worked for him. Will apply this and then wax after but got to wait for the bonnet to cool down now before giving it a go.
I must say that I've had bird poop on the car before but nothing like this has happened, l the car was only in that space overnight!

Wax or insect remover wont help, you need a polish. Start high and go down. Normally your average med cut polish will work. Any of them will do. Or an all in 1 compound.
This. Bird droppings are acidic and eat into the clear, so you'll need to remove some layers (not alot hopefully) to get rid of the marks. You did the right thing by lubricating it before removing, the most important thing is trying to get it off as soon as possible. We keep some quick detailer in the boot and use that with a microfiber towel. Probably wouldn't have left it to soak but at that stage the damage is probably already done whilst it's been sitting.
