I've bought a car that has been PPF'd with XPEL. The thing has a stick on front number plate that I need to change due to reg transfer, but I'd like not to disturb the PPF. I'll be replacing it with another vinyl stick on plate;

Interestingly in the instructions for the new plate it says use soapy water and a squeegee to apply the thing. Never done one before but had assumed they were stick on with glue like a decal, not water like PPF.

I'm sure it will involve some heat somewhere along the way. I've not even tried to pick at it yet. Anyone done similar or have any advice or thoughts before I get the warm water or heat gun on it?

Fibre line.

Or, hot air + plastic spreader.

I was thinking along those lines. I have worries about the PPF coming up too. At least I guess I could probably push that back down again though if it does...

The double-sided adhesive will be sandwiched between the plate and the PPF. Fibre or fishing line will cut through the adhesive matter. In any case, you're going over it?

PPF has a adhesive side same as the decal plate the soapy water/slip method is to stop it sticking before its lined up and all the air bubbles squeegee out then it will dry and adhere in place, if you use a heat gun you will loosen the ppf aswell and it will not bond to the paint a second time even with heat, as already mentioned probably the only way is to get a plate same size to go over it or you will be looking at getting the PPF redone.

Don’t overthink it. Just some gentle heat with a hair dryer, soften the plate, then get a fingernail under an edge and keep working it.Keep andding just enough heat to keep it soft and pliable. Any glue residue will wipe off with some meths.It won’t damage the PPF.
