F10 M5 tyre and winter wheel options
Discussion
Hi,
I've currently got Pirelli P Zeros on my F10 M5 on OEM 20" wheels. Great in the dry, but I'm a bit disappointed with the wet traction. Are the Michelins significantly better? And... what is the recommendation these days, Pilot 4S or Pilot Super Sports?
My job before the winter is to get a set of OEM 345M 19" wheels, and buy a set of Michelin winter tyres for them. They're few and far between from eBay, has anybody had success with aftermarket wheels? I'd rather have two sets of wheels and protect the 20" from the winters, 19" wheels seem more sensible for winter and I know from my old 330i that the difference with summers in the cold and all seasons / winters is night and day. I can't imagine it's much fun driving an M5 on summers in the cold...
Thanks!
P.S. If anybody has a set of winter wheels and tyres I'd be interested!

I have run Pilot Super Sports (OEM), Evo3's and now SportContact 7's on my F10 M5 and the SC7's are night and day better than the previous two sets - especially the wet performance is night and day. They were similarly priced to the Hankooks and much cheaper than the Michelins and I am glad I went with them.
On my F13 M6 I’ve recently had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4Ss fitted to mine and they are fantastic; supposedly a better all-rounder to the SuperSports.. But previous to them it had Bridgestone Potenzas on when I bought the car, which were down to about 4mm of tread and they were shocking in the wet.
If I would’ve known about the new Continental Sport Contact 7s at the time I would’ve compared them to the PS4s on Tyre Reviews and then made a decision. Perhaps worth doing a comparison of reviews between these two and the new Michelin PS5s, as these are meant to be a step on too.

When I had mine I just put some winters on the 20" summer wheels they were Pirelli's an Aston Martin fitment tyre rather than star rated IIRC, but back then MPSS were awful in the cold weather the PS4S is much better as I had those on my F80 M3 and it was actually drivable in light snow (just)
