PC unable to connect to Fire Tablets

We've had a few Fire Tablets donated to us, 2 x 5th gen and one 8 x gen, and I am trying to connect them to my PC to run FireBox on them to strip away the Amazon bloatware.

However three tablets, multiple cables and I can't seem to get any to connect to my new Windows 11 PC. All charge, but none seem to be visible to the PC.

Im usually pretty good with my tech, but this has me stumped. Googling it brings up the usual 'try a different cable' etc - but ive tried every possible combination & several cables already.

Any pointers to start with?

Well that's really annoying, went and found a 5th cable (!), one of my old school/bottom of the wire bag ones...and its working now!

All the micro USB cables we have around us must be cheap/power but no data ones..... ah well, maybe this helps a future individual!
