Boot won't open.

A bit of a nightmare today with my 2015 Vanquish coupe.

A boot full of shopping, hot weather and after getting home the boot would not unlock.

I ended up removing the rear seat cushions and raising the rear parcel shelf enough to gain access into the boot, that enabled me to remove the shopping via the speaker hole, but, when I hooked the emergency release with a contraption that I made to reach it, it was solid and I couldn't get it to open, try as I might.

Also, the fob will not lock the doors. It sounds like they have locked, but they don't. Likewise the boot makes a sound when using the remote, with the door switch or the boot button, but stays shut.

I'm now stuck with the dillema of what to do, so does anyone have any words of wisdom on this one?

I'll have another go in the morning and might try to undo the 2 bolts holding the latch inside to see if that gets it open. That should be fun.

When that happened with my Volante, which had no other way into the boot, the advice from the nice chap at AM Assistance was to drive it like I’d stolen it and try to cause whatever had probably slightly pulled the handle to move out of the way. It worked.

Appreciate you’ve moved stuff in the boot, but it might work? Worst case, it’s an excuse for a spirited drive.

ETA: as I don’t plan on locking myself in the boot, the handle is now taped down. I shall remember this if I ever get kidnapped whilst driving it.

That won't work sadly, the emergency release is dangling free but is impossible to pull, it seems to be totally jammed.

Update.

It's fixed.

I managed to get enough socket extensions to reach the 2 bolts holding the latch to the boot lid. Once they were undone, the boot could be opened.

After removing the slam panel, I had a good look at the mechanism, the latch solenoid, the actuator motor and cable. To my surprise, the actuator had a fault. There is a small microswitch on it held in place by glue, it had come adrift at one side causing the metal arm to slip off the actuator part, so the microswitch was permanently in an off position. I made a piece of plastic to fit between it and the body of the actuator then added some Superglue for good measure.

A quick test before putting it all back together proved it was fixed.

It does answer the question of why the boot wouldn't latch down intermittently though.

Here is a photo of the microswitch and how it had dislodged, plus a video, if it loads, of how the mechanism works.
