Any Public Allowed Car Auctions In Manchester or North West?
Discussion
Good Afternoon
Is there any car auctions in the Manchester area or the North West that allow the public in?
I went to the one at Ellesmere Port recently, i have read old and recent reviews regarding fake bidding by the auctioneer, after being there i agree that something was not quite right. All the cars seemed to sell too however they are in today's listing again. I wont be returning.
I have extensive experience buying cars privately, being savvy means i can spot all the doorstep trader pretending to be private sellers. Its impossible to find a genuine honest private seller. My last few cheap cars have been from doorstep traders as im left with no choice.
Nobody looks after their cars, even premium cars like bmw are dog, everyone lies lies lies. Only believe what you can see for yourself.
thanks guys

Ellesmere Port is a waste of time for buying. I have only sold there. Its good for <£1000 cars but that's about it.
There's Clwyd Auctions too. Their stock is pretty similar but occasionally they have one or two nice cars too.
In fairness, Ellesmere Port can have a couple of nice cars every so often, but what normally happens is they're entered just before an auction (they have 3 per week, so its quite frequent), don't get into the catalogue, and are sold that day/evening.

Hi mate I wont be returning to Ellesmere Port due to the fake bidding, is the one at Clwyd any better in that respect? There's Clwyd Auctions too. Their stock is pretty similar but occasionally they have one or two nice cars too.

Its not fake bidding its just his style. All the cars have a reserve on them (and if they don't, the auction won't sell too far below CAP because they can just store it and put it in the next one). So he starts with a 'bid' just below the reserve, which isn't really a bid. If there's bids inserted later its probably because the car is below reserve, so he'll try to get it to reserve.
A lot of the reserve prices are unrealistic, it seems the sellers can set their own rather than have to use CAP. Some cars end up "stuck" there because the storage is waived, or really cheap, for the regular sellers.

If you cant live with 'fake' bidding then don't bother with any car auctions. They all do it to some degree, its just part of it. Once you've got a bit of experience you can usually tell when you're being run up or when you're actually bidding against someone
