Is The Times having a little joke. An article saying free speech in the UK is restricted. No comment allowed on the article.

When I saw that, I wondered for a moment if it was a re-run article from April 1st!

People who say they want free speech very often don't want others to have it too.

There are certainly a few people who say they want to promote free speech but then seem a bit offended when they get a negative response to what they have said.

Probably because she mentioned Kneecap (if only once) and The Times never allow comments on articles about active cases.

It's a shame people think like this, I always like hearing from those who think differently to me.

If it isn't the law for media, then it's a universally accepted norm.

They also don't want their 'free speech' to have any subsequent consequences for them.

"I can't say what I want"

"well what is it you want to say?"

"you're silencing me"

"no I'm not say what you want just don't complain if you get banned/knock on the door/whatever"

Weird how that concept seems so difficult for some people to accept.

It's more the risk of having the wrong opinions, better to leave them all out to begin with.

Author is right to say speech is not free. Her speech is behind a paywall.

The irony is off the scale

Is everyone supposed to know what you mean? Perhaps you think that everyone is nodding while they think "You know, that Gordon Hill is right again. Like he's actually right on everything."

I genuinely chuckled slightly out loud when I read stewie's reply, which isn't good because I'm in a busy office.

I wouldn't get to het up about exercising free speech on the website of a privately owned company, with it's own terms of service as to what you can and can't say.
