What do people driving to Le Mans Classic in a classic car (typically a 40 yr old) do when you have to go through a city that has low emotion zones? You can't get a Crit' Air authorization sticker to go into LEZ cities for a car older than about 30 yrs. Avoid going into these cities then, yes, that's one solution, like it 👍 like Roeun, but what about Dieppe, if your ferry crossing is Newhaven to Dieppe 🤔😫

Any thoughts or words of wisdom grateful received. 🙂

Cars over 30 years old appear to be exempt in most of the low emission zones, but there is supposedly no way of registering overseas cars of greater than 30 years of age.

Perhaps just avoid Rouen? There isn’t another in the vicinity.

Thanks Bennno - yes, avoid Rouen 👍 The only other city in the vicinity I believe (could be wrong) is Dieppe which is our ferry crossing destination 🤔

Thought it was still mainly a risk for parked cars in zones as no ANPR systems up yet and no means of enforcing cross border. Very very very remote risk of relatively small fine - 60 euros - holding traffic for physical checks at busy periods would drastically increase pollution.

Mainly a a scheme collecting low revenue disc fees from compliant cars

I can't see this applying to the new ring road for the north side of Rouen linking the two motorways. Coming south it's nearly finished with a flyover joining the two routes, still some messing about with diversions going north. It gets better every time I go through, last trip 3 weeks ago.

I wouldn't worry too much. In wonderfully typical Galic style, they might have the stickers, but they don't have a network of cameras or anything, so it's wholly reliant upon the police being bothered to check. You can guess how fastidious they are about that (they don't give a fxxk).

So long as you're driving through and not stopping, and not doing anything silly, they don't even bat an eyelid. I drove my 1987 Ford Capri 2.8 Injection Special (complete with Group N Competition manifolds and exhaust) through the middle of Rouen for the last Le Mans Classic in 2023 without incident.

Have you any road numbers for the north and south ring roads?

Hope this helps. You come down the A150 from Dieppe and as you can see the through route passes to the west side. It's practically all dual carriageway ( will be when it's finished) The eastern road is from the A28/ N28 over the river and down to the motorway, that is all dual
Collector cars aged 30years plus are exempt

Thanks all.

Leyorkie - map very helpful - if I come down the A150 for LMC next month surely I'll pass through Rouen lez area at the bridge N1338? Or is this part of the route past Rouen NOT inside the LEZ?

My understanding - as a classic car I'm exempt which I interprete to mean I can't drive there at all!

Here's the map of the Crit'air zone, from: https://zfe.metropole-rouen-normandie.fr/

Green roads are exceptions to the zone but are just roads to the Park and Rides.

No it means you don't have to display a sticker, you're in the clear.
Another feature of the French system is that any vehicle can apply for a 24 hour pass

I took my 1934 triumph to the last classic Le Mans and like you came from Dieppe. I avoided Rouen by going to Duclair and over the free ferry over the Seine stay on the D64 along the banks of the Seine to La Bouille where you can join the old N148 (now D948) which was the road all the teams used to drive the cars to the race in days gone by, and on to Le Mans.
