Got some space at the far end of our garden thats a bit of a dead spot at the minute and we've been thinking about putting up some kind of structure to create an outdoor, covered dining area type thing (put the BBQ down there etc). In my head what I'm after is something roughly 3m x 3m square with a roof and 2 sides. Wood or aluminium, not too bothered about as not 100% sure on the style yet. Thought about maybe building something myself but then had a quick look and there are plenty of flat pack options but mostly seem to be pressure treated softwood which I'd be worried about rotting far quicker than hardwood.

So has anyone used a flat pack company for something similar and had positive experiences? Seems like a load of different companies all offering similar things for similar prices (~£2k) but more than happy to pay more for something better.

Do it yourself if you can.

You'll get something far more substantial for the same money, most of the commercial stuff I looked at was pretty flimsy even if advertised as hardwood or premium. The aluminium stuff was even worse.

Treated softwood is fine, go for chunky wood dimensions and design it with reasonable overhangs and it'll look better and last indefinitely.

Agree if you have the time - I’ve just built a shed for £1100 in materials that would have been more like £2k ‘Flat Pack’

EPDM roof, 21mm Shiplap, 20mm Cladding floor…

Very satisfying doing your own design and build too.

We've got a Dunster House Cabin, had it over 10 years now, still solid, still good
