It will never happen.

I’m certain it’s just political propaganda.

Although if it did become a thing it might actual be a good deterrent.

A scheme is alreadin in place apparently - BBC:
"The government will expand a small pilot scheme offering voluntary chemical castration to some sex offenders to 20 more prisons after the report said that trial should continue."

Hang on!

Weren't the Gov to announce signing something very unpopular today?

Well at least until the High Court said "Not allowed"

Offering is very different to mandatory.

It will never happen it would be against their human rights or something.

Be a bit pointless anyway, just jack themselves up with testosterone and be back to it as quickly as they can park up outside the school gates

I assumed it would remove the desire or urge, so there would be no incentive to do that.

Another step in the woo the northern right wingers approach to try to stem the tide of Reform voters. TBF tough on crime, this is what people are hoping to happen.

Personally, kind of makes me feel sick, but then if it is actually proven to protect children, then it's perhaps a good thing overall.

Another story where Labour and most of the media would have been apoplectic had a Tory minister suggested it but if it comes from Labour any criticism will be muted.

But I agree it will never happen. In a country where the rights of foreign criminal asylum seekers are held to outweigh those of the UK population when deportation is being comsidered this will never get passed.

In any case - even if it would qork it crosses a very dangerous line. If they are that dangerous then keep them in prison.

There are multiple existing methods whereby treatment can be carried out without consent, mental health patients can for example be made to take their meds. Public safety is a perfectly reasonable goal for doing so and a criminal trial is a very high standard of proof to begin treatment.

There would probably be many paedophiles that would welcome this.

Some of them would jump at the chance to have this, so offering it to them might be enough to have a decent uptake.

I'd be amazed if it became mandatory.
