Minor damage repair - base coat difficulty
Discussion
Some help please!
I’m trying to DIY repair a 5p sized car park pillar nick on a metallic white VW Polo. The damage goes all the way through the paint. I’ve got the VW two pot (base + clear coat) kit in the right colour.
I’m finding it very hard to get anywhere near to filling the hole with a flat finish using the base coat. Probably just my incompetence / inexperience, but I’ve tried hard to get enough paint in, with the result you can see below.
What do I do next? Keep going with another (3rd) coat and then attempt to carefully sand it down with some wet 3000 paper before applying the clear coat and then carefully T-cutting the whole area?
Or have I made such a mess of it that I need to start again? In which case, how do I undo what I’ve done so far? And what do I do differently to get a better result?
Thanks in advance…

I dont think you will ever get it looking good, you could try adding thinner layers to the edges to try and feather it out but personally id quit while your ahead and get it repaired properly.
That is not wishing to offend but its a very skilled job, if your not that bothered about it then just do as above and send it.
If its deep it will require some filler.

You could try stopper paste (to fill in the area below) and blocking it (to remove the paint/filler above), however its not flat its on a curve so you'd need to adapt the technique a bit. The chip touch up kits never seem to have the right paint, you really want something a bit thicker to fill it in too.
