Some years ago, when I travelled on the night ferry to Cherbourg I had a route recommendation from this site which included a stop at Saint-Mere-d'Eglise for breakfast. That turned out to be a good choice.

This time I will be on the night ferry to Ouistreham-Caen. Does anyone have a recommendation for a breakfast stop between Ouistreham and, say, Falaise.

I have used a boulangerie on the left as you come out of Ouistreham but its nothing special.

Thanks.

No specific recommendation but generally rather than heading straight on the Autoroute take a more scenic route and see what you happen upon in some of the small towns you pass through on the way.

Looking at the map I'd cross the river at Pegasus bridge, where there's a few places though might be a bit tourist trappy, then head through villages like Ranville, Troarn, Argences, and Saint-Pierre-an-Auge before heading to Falaise and the Autoroute (or N158 if you want to enjoy the drive, not just get there). Worst case Google Maps thinks I want to know there's a McDonalds in Argences so there would be that option if deperate!

Maybe a bit far for breakfast but we always stop at Putanges-le-Lac on the D909 good cafe's and Boulangerie also
interesting liberation memorial on the bridge by the car park.

If you fancy a kebab there's one in St. Gauburge St. Columbe.

59 Grande Rue, 61370 Sainte-Gauburge-Sainte-Colombe, a couple of doors up there is a book shop that also doubles as a tea shop so if you want a cup of tea and a cake, give them a try. There is free parking at

2 Rue de l'Ancienne Église, 61370 Sainte-Gauburge-Sainte-Colombe

or on-street free parking on the main street or outside the church.

If you fancy a scenic drive get off the autoroute at Argentan and then program in Exmes, then Echauffour, then St. Gauburge, Moulins-au-Marche, then Le Mans and it should take you back to Alencon to rejoin the A28. Roads are brilliant and quiet.

I can’t help you with your question, but please tell me more about Saint-Mere-d'Eglise for breakfast - we’re on the Cherbourg ferry this year!

It's a long time since I've had a kebab for breakfast (or what's left of one)

We often stop in Sees and there's a nice restaurant in the square by the cathedral, but it depends how early you are travelling.

Even less helpful - when I used to go overnight Portsmouth/Le Havre we tended to have eaten dinner late so skipped breakfast and put in some miles before an early lunch, usually stopping in Trun (having gone "D" road cross country). Nice little layby in the middle of town with brasserie and patisserie just up the road - though I can't prmis the vetran car that was parked there when Google passed through! https://maps.app.goo.gl/HkfpcAXJsjN5tCaS6

Its the 'Au Normandy'

Popular stop on route in both directions.
