Anyone mixing tyre types on their car?

I need to change the tyres on our Mercedes CLK240, currently on Continental ContiSport Contacts all round.
Wheels are staggered - fronts 225/45/17 - rear 245/40/17

I'm struggling to find anywhere selling the same Continental tyres for front and rear, whilst there's a fair amount of choice for the fronts, the only rears I can find Continental UltraContact tyres which aren't always available for the fronts. When trying to find a mobile trye fitter the choice shrinks further.

I'd prefer to use same tyres all round, but if I want to stick with Continental then I'm going to have to mix different tyres front & rear.

If I were you, I would pay a visit to ASDA tyres & opt for fully fitted, they will give you a list of places near you at what are frequently the best prices around, I have been using them for years now.

G/Y Eagle F1 Assy 6 in your sizes work out at about £470 for all 4.

They are an excellent all-round (snigger!) tyre.

It would seem logical to look at other tyre brands.

I did, but there weren't many options for having the same tyre type for fronts and rears, the rears being quite restricted in choice

Just a quick google but this owners forum seems to suggest that you maybe dont need the staggered tyre sizes if your rims are all the same sizes. The staggered size is an option but maybe not nessesary.

I would consult your owners manual or give your local MB dealer a phone to ask though.

I have no problem mixing brands on my cars. My bmw runs kumho fronts, falken rears. My porsche runs kumho fronts, michelin rears. Both absolutely fine for me.

I would not mix budgets and premium tyres though.

Personally, if you want matching tyres, I'd look at other brands. I find kumhos rate very well on tests, and are very keenly priced, so I'd go with them.
