This was the ride out. Bsck via devils staircase, ending up in Newtown before the dreary A roads back
I struggled to see a straight piece of road, it was brilliant. Why do people schlap mega miles and toll roads when we have such fun in Wales!

I love Wales and have done a lot of miles enjoying it in cars and bikes particularly around the Elan Valley, the only draw back is that more often than not it rains.
Once I went from Saundersfoot on the south coast to Conwy on the north, it was heavy rain all day and I didn't have proper waterproofs with me, it was a miserable experience. When I got to a McDonalds a member of staff put a wet floor sign next to me as I'd dripped on the floor so much.

The weather is one thing. In the north, the people are another. Got offered a fight because I didn't speak Welsh. I'm from Glasgow...was typical of the attitude. I was there with a group of English folk and the overt hatred was stunning. We were advised to leave town by the police in one place.

I've cycled off road there many times but never ridden a motorbike there.My point is why ride hundreds of miles along motorways across Europe, Sweden etc in straight lines - it's a schlap. I've been across Europe on a bike and it needs a serious investment in time to get to the really good stuff.

Wales; why people go abroad!Just spent 3 days riding 450 miles around Welsh green lanes and in this weather it was on a par with anywhere in the world
BUT this sunny week is not usual Welsh weather
The Police there are fairly anti English, anti speed and anti motorcycle which doesn't encourage me to visit too often for road motorcycling
There are huge areas in Europe that are far more deserted far more likely to be dry and it's impossible to end up with a UK driving ban

Yeah - right. We moved from Essex to N.W. Wales, 10 years ago, and we could not have met a nicer bunch of people. You get back what you give, as ever in life.SS427 Camaro said:
Because Europe is ruddy awesome. Scamera free, imaculate roads, great weather, stunning scenery blah blah blah. Off on the 98 R1 in June for a few days in France, on my jack, cannot wait…..
France is far from scamera free !I was shocked how many cameras and speed traps I saw and I was on quieter country roads
You can't get a UK ban but you can get some horrific fines

LOL, same. The North Wales Police really hate the English too.My parents have a had a place in Caernarfon, now Anglesey, most of my friends have places on the Llyn Peninsular, my brother went to Uni in Bangor and still absolutely zero issues.
Perhaps it isn’t the locals that are the problem.
ETA; the Police are most certainly anti-speed, so ensure Waze is set up!

king rammed full of traffic/roadworks and the absolute dregs of society buggering about at 40mph in a 60 zone with about 15 cars behind them.
I've spent a lot of time in Wales over the last few years including the Dragon/Bruce Pollard Rallies in February doing 5/700 miles over a weekend. I've also gone into Brecon for a few day trips from Reading (350 ish miles round trip). Each time you've got to deal with horrendous traffic on the way there and back, strong police presence and awful road surface quality.
The last two years I've toured in Europe and it's VASTLY better.
The Picos are (overwhelmingly but not completely without fault) full of non deteriorated road surfaces, VERY little traffic, significantly better food and equally if not more stunning views. The same goes for parts of Luxembourg, Germany, France etc etc.
Plus some of us like to enjoy and experience other cultures....
Scotland, Cornwall, The Lakes etc etc etc have the same problem. FAR too much traffic, FAR too many avg speed cameras and roads akin to the surface of the moon.
