So been wondering for a while what this tower in the middle of the woods on the Forest Of Dean is for, by Mallards Pike.

Its right by some “un official” but well used mountain bike trails.

Can only think of for shooting boar etc?

What do we think?

Tower to watch for fires? A way to get away from midgies.
There were similar in Kielder many years ago in my rally days

Often called a 'high seat', used for deer shooting etc.

Too small for the fire observation tower?

It’s one of these:

Hunting, they're culling Deer in FOD, they hunt Boar too, but I don't know if that's a cull or just for hunting's sake.

Deer overpopulation is a big issue in the UK, but they're so good as not being spotted few people realise. They have no predators apart from Humans. People have been talking about reintroducing Wolves for years, it would be great for the ecology of places like FOD. They're as shy to humans as deer, but there's an obvious reluctance from some locals to have them living near them.

Great trails aren't they!
