After a cracking Imola race, we’re in Monaco for one of the classics. It will probably be the best Qualifying of the season, but the race not so much. Note drivers will have to change tyres twice in the race, so that might spice it up a bit.
Verstappen must start favorite after his excellent Imola win, but the car is better in fast corners than slow. Piastri was mighty here last year and Leclerc won it, so place your bets.
I’m sticking with Norris- beating Piastri last time out will help his mind relax I think and the McLaren is pretty handy in slow corners.
Here’s to a great race.

It's just a procession though, the cars are too big. They should retire this circuit now.
I see what you did there

In a minute PIAP will post up the Monaco GP thread and the same people will be grumbing the same grumbles as last year about it being unsuitable - as if it's new or interesting information smile

I can imagine anyone of Max, Piastri or Lando getting the pole lap here this season. I can equally imagine one of them having a shunt whilst trying. None of them can afford to play safe, and they're all fast enough force each other to really push the limits.
The McLaren is probably more naturally suited to this circuit than the RBR, there's no respite there though as there are two McLarens.

I've long likened Monaco to Bond films in that the anticipation for what's to come generally falls some way short of what you hoped for. But every now and then a Skyfall lands that makes up for the others.
But...
But...

I very much doubt that will ever happen. And I hope it doesn't. For all its faults, Monaco is one of those defining attributes of F1 and is part of its history that seems to be fast eroding elsewhere. spitfire-ian said:

Just getting in there first, take the wind out of the sails of the terminally miserable

There were some figures in Motor Sport a few years ago showing cornering speeds for possibly a McLaren. At the old Station Hairpin it was slower than their car had been 20 years previously. This isn't surprising when you consider that the wheelbase of the modern car was 4 feet longer than a 1970 car, ie 50% longer!

I’m sticking with my suggestion at the end of the Imola thread, that the teams need to do something different at Monaco as the cars are too big.
Give the teams a budget of say $100,000, to design and build a pair of those crazy 250cc Superkarts just for this one race around the streets.
If Chris Harris can say it’s the craziest thing he’s ever done on four wheels…

Slightly more serious answer, probably McLaren will do what’s needed on Saturday, but any one of seven cars could end up with the pole, especially if the session gets disrupted - which has happened before and will happen again, as someone goes a fraction over the limit looking for the ultimate pace.
Then do a rain dance on Sunday morning.

Monaco weather. Rain, Saturday afternoon. Then do a rain dance on Sunday morning.

Or someone sets a fastest time with everyone else behind him about to go quicker, so he decides to block the track - end of session. Then do a rain dance on Sunday morning.
