Another what bike...
Discussion
Im getting itchy feet with my current bike and want to have a look at what to replace my 2012 BMW R1200GS Adventure with.
I'm open to any manufacturer.
Ive got a few musts and a few wants.
It must be big. Im six foot four and a bit and 135kg. The GS Adventure is a good size for me.
I need at least 250 miles from a tank. This can either be great MPG or a huge tank. I hate fueling up and 250 miles will be my weekly commute.
Id like some rider comforts. Heated grips are a must. A heated seat would be nice. Cruise control is a nice to have but not needed.
Decent sized panniers.
Good wind/rain protection. It will be used in all weather apart from ice/snow.
50 miles a day. A mixture of country A roads, town and dual carriageway.
I think it's going to be another adventure bike most likely. Oh and a upright position.
Budget...haven't got one at the moment. It wont be until next year at the earliest as I like to do a lot of research before. Maybe £15,000.

The range requirement is going to remove the vast majority of bikes from the "to be considered" list. Even in the adventure bike area there are only a few that can get that sort of range.
Much as I find the GS to be completely meh!, with the introduction of the 1300, you should be able to find a good 1250GSA well within your budget.

I'm going to go with an MV Agusta Enduro Veloce. 931cc Triple, which is a fabulous engine and makes an even better sound. It is a tall bike. They are currently on offer if you look around for £15,495 including the metal pannier kit and now carry a 5 year warranty. They have cruise control. Awesome ride and handling and stopping power. Considering they were launched at 21k, they are a bit of a bargain at the moment I would say and almost bang on your budget.I'm open to any manufacturer.

If needs be I can drop the 250 miles...I kinda forget that 250+ is a lot from a bike (I currently get 300+). Much as I find the GS to be completely meh!, with the introduction of the 1300, you should be able to find a good 1250GSA well within your budget.
Your last paragraph is the reason why I'm open to others. I love my GSA, but it doesn't excite me.

Your tank range requirements limit you to a GSA, Tenere 700 World Raid and the Ducati Desert X with the optional rear tank fitted. That’s about it. I'm open to any manufacturer.

With that tank range and your size requirements I think you're heading down the GSA route. Even next year the 1300 won't be £15k I wouldn't have thought so you're looking at a 1250 when everyone will tell you the 1300 is a different beast dynamically. Would a "standard 1300 work? I have a '24 GS1300 (not adventure). It is a fabulous bike and a transformation from the 1250 - (much) faster, more nimble, flickable and huge fun when you want it and then just GS when you want that too. It's probably big enough for you (as full seat height) but the BMW panniers are not large (smaller than the previous bike) and the tank range is c180miles. I commute 60 miles a day on mine and fill it up on day 3. You'll almost certainly get a nice 1300 (non Adventure) next year for £15k.
I think I'd have to leave my poor Super Duke GT and get a GS of some variety for that usage. You left out 'fun' or 'agile' or even power in your requirements, but I assume somewhere near your current power or power-to-weight is what you'd want to stick with. But if excitement and leisure riding aren't the primary drivers then perhaps a later year R1250GSA is the most logical solution. Especially given you're already in the GS world so there's some expectations that won't need resetting/setting.
If you aren't worried about missing the additional 'fun' the 1300GS brought in then there's less reason to feel the pull to that newer and more spendy option.
But if you fancy a crisis bike get a 1290 SAS and hope nothing breaks :P. (I say this having spent too long trying to find some bearings for my 1290 GT these past few weeks, and am sure it's not as bad as my limited experience this year. So nerr.)
