Holiday in Italy next month, trying to decide how to get from A to B. Not bothered about the extra time on the alternate (3hr 50m) route but is it worth it scenery-wise? Would I be missing out anything on the Venice - Trento leg?

Some superb scenery and mountain passes.

I can't quite tell which way the route takes you north of Agordo but there's several passes - Sella, Pordoi and Gardena. Plenty of hairpin practise to be had biggrin

Either way, make sure you know where fuel stops are especially on a Sunday. Ortisei is a good base with a great funicular up the mountain

Parents lived in Orgnese which is just off to the right of your map (By Maniago) and I drove from there to Wolfgangsee, absolutely beautiful once you get into the Dolomites. Venice to Trento unfortunately I can't really comment, if it's anything like the area to the east it's extremely flat and just field after field of grapes.

Have a great time, it's an amazing area of the world and the food is fantastic.
