Hi

Someone just keyed the drivers door of my 992.2 Carrera. About 5cm.

What would folk recommend ?

The official Porsche bodyshops are over 3k to 4K as respray all.

The car is jet black metallic with G tech coating.

I live in London/Oxford areas.

Thx

If the OPC is a no no for you then I would choose a very reputable high end car detailer.

I use and point my buddies to Refined Detail in Henfield, extremely good and has a first-class reputation, for all work carried out.

It maybe a bit of a travel from you but, I promise it'll be worth it. These jobs need to be done right first time.

Goood luck wink

Have a chat with this guy

http://www.jfbodyworks.co.uk/restoration/restorati...

He did some paintwork for me a few years ago and also does the paint for one of the high end restomod companies in the UK (£400k+ prices... And very nice paint!)

surely just look for a well recommended local PDR guy? that's a relatively minor fix.

If its keyed through to the metal, or even through the undercoat, then i dont think a detailer is going to be able to resolve it.

May not be of course, but people keying cars do tend to put the effort in.

Refined repairs too, not just detailing and PPF wink

My local OPC used to use Premier Panel Skills (Farnham), and the quality of their work was incredible.

They have recently been bought out by Steer Automotive Group: https://www.steer.co.uk/about-us/locations

I'm not a porsche guy but auto technics near Windsor did a perfect job on my car and were vw warranty approved. Might be porsche approved as well? They aren't cheap but I would hope they're not opc prices. Sorry for your scratch, I hate it

For Oxford/London I use the one and only Richard Tipper. The man who washes the world’s most valuable cars....

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/features/the-man-...

https://x.com/perfectionvalet?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoog...

35yrs as a detailer and also consultant to Porsche
https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/2020/sport-lifesty...

Tipper is trusted with priceless motors, from the Ferrari 250 GTO to Le Mans-winning Jaguar XJR-9.

Harry Metcalfe (of Harrys Garage), Top Gear. Singer, and all the hi enders use him.

He is based about 30mins outside London towards Oxford.

No affiliation, just his work is off the charts.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

but if its gone through the clear coat then its game over for how much a detailer can cure. I have just had the same - 3 scratches. Richard could save 2 but the 3rd is too deep so Auto Farm are the best - based in Bicester - to give advice - considering their pedigree.

It’s a 2” scratch people. It’s bread and butter for any competent PDR pro.

If it’s gone through to the primer then painting is the only option. A Detailer can’t fix that.

It’s a question of finding a body shop you trust at a price you find acceptable.

Try Riviera Autobody south of Oxford, they do a lot of Porsches.

Its got G Tech coating which means one might start chasing that. I wouldn't go to just anybody if I was the the original poster. Go to the best in the country whom happens to be close to the posters location.

The coating means nothing. Any competent bodywork pro could sort a 2” scratch in no time. It’s a tiny bit of wet sanding, primer/paint/lacquer & polishing. As far as I know there isnt a competition for ‘best bodywork pro in the country”. Recommendations often help.

PDR as in paintless dent removal?

Why would you do to a specialist in paintless dent removal, to have paintwork done? am i missing something?

Of course you could always protect the marked area with a patch of PPF and relax ?

Would anything "reward" the perpetrator better than your not worrying about it ... ??

That has been my thinking also.

Also this notion of sanding it out, bit of primer, couple of coats of paint, couple of coats of lacquer...

By the time you do all that and maybe adding +2 inches each time to feather out you're in to quite a bit of a panel painted and thats impossible to hide no matter how good your smart repairer is.

Yes, on a bumper corner, or low down but not in the middle of a door panel.

I've a smart repair guy coming out to resolve a scratch on my Mercedes on Thursday but its down low and in a contained area with edges. I dont think they'd be tackling a door.

Could be wrong of course.....

Because PDR pro's do paintwork (for example, when they're fixing scratches). These days they also do several other things too (like alloy refurbs). Handy to know a good one.

Our PDR guys don’t do paint.
