Anyone with an early SZ car that has a CAV alternator?
Discussion
I could use some help here as my car was converted to a GM alternator the voltage regulator was removed. I have 3 live wires in the boot of the car which I taped off. I'd like to know where they go but the wiring diagram is not color coded (unless the NS, NG etc stand for certain colors). If you anyone could snap a picture of the wiring at the voltage regulator in the boot so I can see where each color coded wire connects (the connections are marked with letters), I can use the info to trace the wires in the wiring harness.
TIA

TIA
They are likely the wire colours indicated on the wiring diagram.
Standard British vehicle wiring diagram convention is/was:
N = Brown
U = Blue
R = Red
P = Purple
G = Green
LG = Light Green
W = White
Y = Yellow
B = Black
S = Slate
K = Pink
O = Orange
So NG = brown with green trace, NS = brown with slate trace etc.

From ex Auto Sparks now retired 82 years.... The original Voltage control box..."CAV 440 " part number was located in a side panel in the boot.....
the 7 Terminals ..left to right are..." - negative "...".A..aux for CAV alternator only ". " WL dash warning light..".F again CAV alternator only "... last 3 Are for setting the charge rate..ie...HI / MED / LOW. now if you have a GM alternator fitted...normal you would only need the WL ...that would run to the WL on the GM unit...some early GMs needed a live 12v sensor feed..but that can be sorted under the engine compartment....so all those in boot could be taped up...except the WL which goes to the Dash light...so that would need to now arive at GM WL..The WL in the dash is wired ...one side live ignition on...the other side needs to see the WL now in the GM..which is in fact - negative [ engine not running ]...... to sum up.best i can help.... GM needs large heavy amps main 12v pos...same with 12v neg..they will be the originals...just the WL to sort..and possible thin 12v +pos sensor..i dont know what GM model Alternator you have ?....Peter
