My 7 year old had a Nintendo Switch for his birthday [it's a few years old] and we wanted to get him a pair of over-ear headphones. I want them be wireless and have a mic, in case he wants to play online with his mates, and be under £30.

However, doing a quick search, it seems not all mics work with a Switch. I was looking at these - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CG7YSMSX?ascsubtag=9... but can't really see if the mic will work with a Switch etc?!

Ah, doing a little more googling, it seems you have to use the headphone jack to use the mic [so won't work over Bluetooth]. Still don't know if the above headphones are ok.

Just wondering if any of you guys know of a pair of decent wireless [I guess they'll all have the option to plugin if required] over-ear headphones, with mic, that play nice with a Switch, for under £30?

As I understand it, the bluetooth mic doesn't ever work with the Switch whilst gaming.

This comes down to the Bluetooth spec and profiles that support wide band audio (for music and game noises) being differerent to those of the narrower band audio used for speech (i.e. the mic channel). A2DP vs HFP for those who care)

i.e. The Bluetooth connection made by the switch is for game audio and there is no mic channel when doing so.

We ended up with wired headphones for Fortnite style gaming and chat due to this limitation....

The Soundcore H30i are usually on amazon for about £20, my kids are happy with theirs. You can plug a cheap little mic in the 3.5mm socket, but tbh chat isn't a big thing on Switch anyway.

Yeah...happy to have wireless headphones that'll we can plug in when used on the Switch [need them to be wireless so they can used on iPhone/iPad too].

cheap wired ones from Argos, so you can keep taking them back when they break (they will)

My kids have the Belkin headset and it works as noted - mic needs the cable.

There aren't that many games you can actually play with chat on the Switch without their subscription service, and I think even that's limited. Fortnite works, however.

The other good thing about that headset is that it's volume limited - important for kids.

For the same reason, volume limited!

Not cheap, but neither are new ears.

You’re spot on, Switch still doesn’t support Bluetooth mics, so even if the headphones are wireless, the mic won’t work unless plugged in with a 3.5mm jack. For under £30, you might want to look at something like the Ziumier ZH-1 or the ONANOFF BuddyPhones Galaxy (more kid-friendly). Both have wired options with decent mics that should be compatible with the Switch
