F-Type V6S to V8 P450
Discussion
Morning.
I have, a 2013 V6S and now a 2021 P450, both convertibles and RWD. No noticeable differences in running costs, but an even bigger grin with the V8, but a different price point. My comments from previous thread:
- Facelift car is much better put together (early F-Type's are a disaster, or at least mine was).
- Facelift looks much fresher in and out. Love the digital dash. The pre-facelift cars are starting to age now from the front. Funny, as I hated the facelift when it first came out.
- With that said, the 2018-2019 V6 has the best F-Type front bumper out there.
- V6S was louder for sure and I loved the sound 80% of the time, but sometimes sounded too raspy. V6S makes a wider array of noises. V8 is more monotone, just gets louder, but a lovely super deep tone. The V8 rumble though...wow.
- Both feel and look super special, but the V8 pips it.
- Very little difference in running costs, insurance, tax, fuel, servicing. RWD vs AWD will have a bigger factor in the servicing costs. If anything the V8 is more efficient on a long steady run, but definitely worse on a shorter town journey when cold. I think I average around 26mpg in the V8.
- Neither are sports cars, but the V6S was more engaging to drive thanks to its hydraulic steering (early cars) and shorter gearing. I've love to have that gearing in my V8. V6 begged to be driven hard, V8 has a lazier nature. No difference in outright handling, both barges. Looking forward to getting PS4S on my P450 next week.
- There is a performance difference, but it's not huge. More than enough for the road and RWD keeps things entertaining and lively.
- Absolutely no difference in handling\weight.
Drive both, you won't be disappointed with either. For me, given it's probably my last petrol weekend car, I wanted the V8 and facelift model. It is a shame they didn't carry the V6 over though as some will prefer it.
