Something I’ve been trying to fit in for a while is a visit to the Nurburgring but life and limited free time has got in the way.

A way round this is to use the usual 2 week window in the summer to pay a visit with the family. We’ve been toying with a driving trip into say France to a euro camp style arrangement.

Has anyone done the ring/surrounding area for 2 weeks ? Or even as a stop off on the way to somewhere else. Wondering if it’s a euro driving holiday with a few days stopping off at the ring.

I’ve been there a few times and I love the place but I think 2 weeks there unless you are absolutely fanatical about the place and your family is too would be too long.

There are days there where very little is happening during the day time, you may get to see a track day going or an industry pool testing day.

There are some lovely walks and cycle routes around the track but even then I think 2 weeks would start to get a little boring.

I usually go for a week at a time with a group of like minded mates and if it’s a quiet day we can easily lose a day sitting in the garden of the house we rent drinking beer, bbq going and just chatting rubbish but it’s not a family trip.

There are some nice places to visit nearby but they are a drive away such as Koln and Motorworld museum. I’d say look at the Nurburgring calendar and plan your trip accordingly.

There is an excellent Center Parcs nearby that we stayed at a few years ago (looked it up and was 2012) - it's just far enough away for the engine to be warmed before a lap or two.
It was an October ½ term and as German school holidays are at different times to ours, the cost was minimal (a LOT cheaper than the UK equivalent). The Nurbürgring museum was interesting as was hanging around the track entry car park. Nearby towns by the river are nice to wander round. Not sure there is enough for a full week though - we were there for a long weekend. Been back to the area many times, but not often with the family.
You could combine it with other Center Parcs as there are quite a few around Germany & Holland

There is something to be said about lapping in the family bus

Thanks for the replies so far. As I suspected it's more a stop off on a way to somewhere else although the centre parcs shout sounds attractive.

Theres a Centre Parcs near to the circuit - we did a week there when the kids were small to combine the ring with a family holiday.

We did the local centre parcs too. Parc Eiffel, C15-20k from the ring, has all the usual centre parcs stuff, plus there are castles etc in the vicinity you can also visit.

We were there 1 week with a 3 and 6 year old, could have stayed longer....
