NA 1.6, revs dropping + stalling when coasting to a halt

This is something I noticed a few weeks ago but seems to be getting worse. When coming to a halt and dipping the clutch, the revs on my 1600 NA will drop very low but then recover to 800 rpm ish idle. Today, it stalled a few times in that scenario. Always restarts immediately and then idles correctly. I experimented a bit and found that it does not do this if I knock the car into neutral, only if I dip the clutch. But the clutch does not appear to be dragging at all. Would I be right in saying my car will have a clutch switch that the ECU takes a signal from and mine might be faulty? It would make sense given the symptoms but when I look up clutch switches for NA cars online, most seem to be listed as 96 onward fitment. My car is 93 import.

I'll take a good look under there tomorrow if I've feeling limber enough!

Cant help much with years of the clutch switch sorry but its worth investigating, a visual inspection of the clutch pedal will help, assuming its on there.
Its worth giving the throttle body a clean out and having a look at all the rubber vacuum hoses on the engine too, just some basic checks.
Idle control valves can get gummed up too, i have not cleaned one on an NA though so its worth having a search online for that, normally the idle becomes more erratic with that one so i doubt its that.

Cheers. It’s worth me doing some basic checks in that area I agree. But it actually idles perfectly just not when coming to a stop. I’m going to have a poke around the pedal today. Will report back.

There is a gearbox neutral switch as well on some years which is worth looking into, linked to the clutch switch circuit.

Fixed. It was relating to the clutch switch but the switch itself was fine. There’s a little blue buffer that acts on the switch that has more or less disintegrated on mine. Lucky I had a spare clutch pedal assembly so I swapped the buffer from that. Happy car again.
