Hopefully a quick question, and I think I know the answer (although main dealer sales staff still seem to be confused).

When working out if a new car qualifies for the luxury car tax, it's the P11D price you need to make sure is under £40k right? The OTR price includes the first year's tax and registration fee too which shouldn't be taken into account?

Specifically, I'm looking at the Volvo XC40 B3 Plus, which has a P11D price of £39,495 and an OTR price of £40,090 (which includes the first year's VED at £540 and the registration fee of £55).

TIA.

Interesting question as I'd never thought of the first year VED and the registration fee.

Government website states "list price", the list price includes first year VED and registration fee.

So what is the definition of list price? P11D price or OTR price?

Do you have a link to where it says the list price includes first year VED and registration fee? That's the opposite of what the link I posted above says.

Thanks.

"The new car registration fee that was introduced in April 1998 is an administration fee and not a tax, so is not included in the price of the car.

Vehicle Excise Duty (VED, or the tax disc) should also be excluded."

So it is the P11D price they should use.
