Seen a few videos over the last few days pushing at Mclaren tyre temps after the dig from redbull and tyre water cooling. how they are managing in it better then the other teams over a race distance, if this is how they are doing it it's very cool, what's your thoughts

That's really interesting and that would be a classic kind of Formula One innovation. With all this finger pointing and various different things you would really think that it would be easy to squash any allegations of water being sprayed onto something just by looking at it quite easily. If it is the case I wonder if it would be banned or if it would be something that the other teams will have to catch up with and that will take some time. Thanks for posting the link

Red Bull? A phrase involving the words pots and kettles springs to mind.

Red Bull screaming at their techs to utilise the catering budget better...

That’s an interesting idea, McLaren are clearly doing something right with regard to tyre temperature management and it was noticed back in testing how complex the brake cooling ducts are on their car.

Some fancy new material wouldn’t be a surprise, nor would teams working with aerospace companies and universities about the latest innovations in material science.

What they’re not doing is spraying water around, as Mr Horny was suggesting and Zak Brown was mocking with his drink bottle in Miami.

The car has continually passed scrutineering, so it’s clear that the FIA are happy with the design and implementation. It’s also traditional for the teams to clear these things in advance with Jo Bauer (FIA Technical Delegate to F1, chief scrutineer) and his team.

Personally I love this sort of innovation, it’s a huge amount of what makes a prototype series so exciting to follow.

Agree RE last paragraph, just a shame it's naturally a tradeoff with good racing (unless all teams innovated).

Gary Anderson thinks it's just some clever air ducting at work.

Very clever stuff and very much keeping in line with F1 innovation.

The real question is how long will it take for the other top teams to catch up and bring this solution to their cars?

Or will this be something that the top teams will be incorporating into their 2026 cars?

It could be just cleaver ducting, i just thought it is clever use of materials if it is what they are doing. I like the F1 teams use of clever engineering to challenge others in the sport, Till stuff other teams moan as they didnt think of it and need a few years to catch up as its not an overnight experiment so it gets banned banghead

I thought this was the point of F1. Pushing the boundaries of innovation and technology to maximise performance (within the rules).
Close racing is desirable, but it’s not first and foremost why F1 exists. There are many other forms of motorsport if that’s all you want.
(I realise my opinion is increasingly in the minority.)

FIA report into the McLaren brake inspection in Miami has just been released, basically ruling out any material or other trickery.

Rather amusing that cars 81 and 16 were both “randomly chosen from the points finishers” for a more detailed inspection, and that these inspections focussed on the areas about which there have been rumours and insinuations of non-compliance. Looking at you, Mr Horny.

https://www.fia.com/system/files/decision-document...

But the scrutineers say all is above board, which means it’s up to the other teams to work out what they’re doing and find a way to replicate it.
