Anyone have any experience of this exhaust smoke? 2.0 tdi 2011 140bhp - start up from cold it doesn't smoke at all, it intermittently smokes upon restarting engine after running/stop-start, clears quickly on hard acceleration then no more (takes longer to clear on low speeds such as residential roads). Difficult to tell colour with tinted rear window and as it does clear, but it is a noticeable amount, it probably seems more white. Car starts and runs perfectly, no issues whatsoever. No loss of power, doesn't appear to be using any coolant and have been watching the oil so far no change. No warning lights, mpg seems as expected. Had dpf delete, remap and new egr prior to purchase - understand the map could be potential issue? It's booked in for full service which is due, so will have new filters etc.
Aware of other potential issues, just wondering if anyone has actually ever experienced this behaviour and what the outcome was to try and narrow it down if it continues...

Thanks for your reply
This is what we've pretty much been told when making enquiries with people we know and to just keep an eye on levels and any changes in the drive and performance, but also that it could be this could be that, which of course with cars there's always a list of maybes. I just don't want to ignore it and it become more of an issue I could have nipped in the bud sooner. However we've read and searched the forums and googled, can't find anyone else mentioning this or similar issues so perhaps they are just ignoring it biggrin
We've asked the garage doing the service to give it a going over to see if they can find anything breaking down etc. They can put it on diagnostic if need be but not sure it's worth the cost when thees no actual problems, as I'm having the timing belt etc done too. Fingers crossed after the service it might improve or go away, which is a possibility.
My last diesel didn't smoke at all, but it was pre DPF so I understand that makes a difference.
Other than this niggle, really loving the car and it's drive now I'm getting used to it!

Without a DPF, it would seem likely that more particles would get through the system and out of the exhaust?

As long as it doesn't smoke on start up (which would be an MOT fail, I believe, ignoring the fact that removing the DPF is a fail wink ) it shouldn't be an issue.

Perhaps some extended hot / high-speed running will help clear things out a bit.

Thanks
Yeh fine on start and during driving generally, and when it does happen it clears quickly.
Have taken it on a few long drives but mixed driving, nothing too long on motorway yet so that we will see. Be happy when I know the timing belt and service are done, but more peace of mind.

How many miles has it done? I have a 2.0tdi 170 and was told the previous owner re mapped it to 205bhp. It does smoke sometimes on start up. But it runs absolutely fine. It’s done nearly 228k and still gets 55mpg+ on a run so I think it’s pretty good especially being Quattro.

157k with service history etc been looked after
The Volvo I just changed it for was over 188k I'd owned it 9yrs, so I tend to keep hold of my vehicles keeping them well maintained
I don't do big mileage so it'll increase slowly now

They will go forever if cared for with regular oil changes, not having the Egr or dpf to worry about is a big bonus really although its frowned upon.
Timing belt changes are worth keeping on top of and also the Auxiliary drive belt as this often gets overlooked, if it shreds it can get into the timing belt area and cause some serious damage.
For the sake of a £15 belt change it every few years.
The Egr cooler can be an issue as its a nightmare job to change and an expensive part, probably not needed with an Egr delete but just bypassing it would mean an Mot fail as far as im aware if noticed.

Service and timing belt etc change booked in tomorrow so I've mentioned the auxiliary belt, thanks for that info.
