Just opening up a thread (no agenda, boredom if anything!) for any interested (pro/anti/atheist/agnostic/jedi etc).

Conclave (I didn’t realise it meant ‘lockable room’) starts today.

The Robert Harris book "Conclave" is excellent and well worth a read.

Pope dies, secret meeting, some smoke up a chimney, comments about abuse in the Church, sky fairies, grown up blokes shouldn't dress up, Aluminati, Opus Dei, Tony Blair. Thread ends in around 4 pages.

I'm going to stick my neck out and predict that the next pope will probably be an old catholic man.

It wouldn't be a bad thing if the next pope looked at the population growth figures - Mexico's has more than trebled in the last 60 years - and wondered if the contraception doctrine needed a rethink.

From the Pope's POV, clearly not. If you want your religion to survive/grow long term the last thing you want is contraception.

Is the next Pope one of the cardinals in the conclave? I asked Google and the response was, 'No results found.'

Just interested.

Is there a runners & riders pull-out we can refer to?
A bit like the yearly grand national thing.

BBC has a list of the likely ones... but even Trump thinks he might be in for a shout. Best pope ever.

Well it’s just been announced, it’s Rachel Reeves, apparently she’s been Pope on 3 other occasions. She’s a bit over qualified and a tad rusty but it also states on her CV that she administered the last supper.

I wish they would be quick and get it over with ffs, is there nothing else happening in the world other than a bunch of geriatrics in red frocks mumbling some stuff from a long dead language?
