New to me 992 Targa 4S!
Discussion
Last week I took delivery of a 2.5 year old Targa 4S from Porsche Silverstone. I'd been looking for a while at both used Cabriolets and Targa's.
I'd spent ages reading online and watching youtube videos about the Targa. I reallylike the looks but everyone mentioned the buffeting at speed. I had to drive one to make up my own mind. Porsche Silverstone showed me both a cab and a targa - both lovely cars - and a test drive in the targa did the trick! Having the windows down by about 1" pretty much stopped any buffeting and it was actually a really relaxed place to be with the roof down.
The test drive and deal were done on saturday, and I collected on tuesday! In that time the car was fully prepared and it looked like a brand new car. They even managed to get my number plate on it in that time.
The car is lightly specced with Sports Chrono, Adapative Cruise Control, Bose, and a few other bits and pieces. Pretty much my perfect spec. In terms of colour I would never had picked the Guards Red / Satin Wheels / Tinted Glass combo but in person it looks absolutely stunning. It's also one owner from new with a little over 4,000 miles on it and almost 30 months warranty remaining!
If anyone is on the fence about buying a Targa then get yourself a test drive in one. Bloody brilliant things!

looks great - I love guards red and the color works with black rims (one of the few imo). Targa is the best looking 911 imo.
I think the tinted glass works well on the Targa because you have the big pillar. I just find the tints do not look good if you have a tinted and clear glass next to each other as then the contrast is too pronounced.
just in time for summer, enjoy!

Love that, and would so want one. Never mind the Porsche Police saying it is too heavy, wobbly, whatever...
Ace combo
Exactly - I was nearly put off by comments like that. Until you actually drive one you just don't know. For context, I had a 992 Carrera S until last year and to be honest the Targa 4S drives better in my opinion!Ace combo
Nice car Cerveza ! I have an almost identical car in Shark Blue, same year/spec.
Just wanted to make sure everyone picked up on the critical advice from Malcolm around how to avoid the much talked about buffeting. You can barely see it in his picture but if you look close enough you can see the diffuser deployed, it can be a bit of a pest to get working the first time (see rennlist for advice). That is what kills the buffeting at pretty much every speed and you won't need to worry about adjusting the windows. I think most of the buffeting reports are from people who didn't know how to deploy it.
There is plenty of wind noise though, very similar in that regard to the 992 Cab which I've driven extensively. To be fair it's no worse than the E93 M3 Cab I owned before, it's just the nature of open top driving. In the right conditions the noise adds an extra level of engagement as you get to hear the engine better, for long motorway drives it might get grating (but you can always put up the roof).

Anything spec wise that you wouldn't be without on a 992?
For me it was the PSE (porsche sports exhaust), these aren't loud cars in general and after driving a base cab around for a week without it its something I knew I would really want. That being said there are plenty of probably better aftermarket options, I still have a lot of warranty left though so didn't want to risk anything there. The performance of the base isn't far behind the S, widely reported they understate the performance of the base model to keep some distance from the S but it real terms they aren't dramatically different in feel (to me at least). My experience might be skewed by the extra window lard attached to the Targa S vs the Base Cab.

You can see it better in this picture. It needs pushing down on the passenger side for it to pop up.
