I've pulled the trigger on purchasing a 2021 Vantage.
Thought I'd ask the learned members here about their insurance experience and where is best to go, so I can avoid getting burnt.
Relevant info for my situation:
I'm 54 years with decades of no claims. Car will have a tracker and be locked up in a garage when not in use.
Have a second car (only car at the moment) 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type UK PPP - currently insured with Direct Line.

Thanks in advance.

Try Saga (I know it's a bit embarrassing!). I'm 63, live in Norfolk and fully comp with 2,000 miles a year on a 2006 V8 Vantage is £131.That's nuts!

Looks like Saga might not be for me. Filled in the details, came out at £3300 a year.

Have you tried the comparison site routes for a quote?

As above, many of us pay pennies to insure our AM. You tick all the necessary boxes, other cars, other high performance car, big NCB, age, you should get straight into quotes in the low hundreds unless you live in an inner city crime or vandalism hotspot and the car is parked on the road.

Yeah, got a quote from Admiral for £555. Just wanted to know if anybody had any sob stories about insurance company's poor service after getting insurance, so I know what to avoid.

Several people on here have had good experiences with Aviva but it always seems to be the case that companies go through remodelling and risk phases which last for a couple of years. So competitive for a year or two and then they often refuse to even quote a renewal price. BRM.

As Richard suggests above, try Aviva Direct. They have insured my car for years, except for a two year period with the jokers at NFU.
They are surprisingly sensible cost for low annual mileage, VH V8 Vantages.

I don't know whether the M-B Vantages might be more difficult for insurers. Certainly far more complex electronics and systems (than VH), which insurers have realised are expensive to deal with.

Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels Insurance on 020 8329 1167

The company were recommended to me when I swapped my F-Type for a Vantage Roadster and I’ve been very happy with the service and price.

If you decide to go down the cheapest quote route be sure to actually ask about / read all the details, such as max. labour rate etc.

Key policy details to check are:

- theft: home and away, tracker, garage, keys etc.

- what are the consequences of you insisting on the repairer that is used for accident repair

- less important but can catch you out if you are forced into a 1 litre fiesta for 3 months (as I was) - what hire car you get if your car is off the road being repaired

Some lower cost options have clauses that do reduce the insurance value, but it's a tough and competitive market.

My V8S costs 3x more to annually tax than it does to annually insure - a funny old world.

I found out Sage like the 'old' Vantage but really don't like the 'new' one. scratchchin
A while ago when I was tempted to 'upgrade' I asked for a price to change insurance and it was a flat 'No' not even a price, what they needed to do was cancel the old policy and start a new one....at a multiple of 10 different eek

I got a quite cheap offer from Aviva Direct but I didn't like some of the conditions (use our repairers and we can use pattern or reconditioned parts) so, in the end I went with Locktons, the AMOC insurers again. It's a very comprehensive policy that's not cheap, but it doesn't take or offer NCD. It's absolutely no-quibble about using MDs for repairs and official parts. You don't need to be an AMOC member to use it.

I could get some quite cheap on-line quotes, but cheap insurance can sometimes get expensive when you try to claim.

I had the same experience with Saga, loved the 2009 car but didn't want to touch me in a 2019 Vantage. Ended up with Admiral via a comparison site and pay a little over £500 a year. Road tax £160 lol .... it is a mad world we live in.

Do you remember the equivalent costs for your 2009 Vantage?
Probably roughly the other way round.

A mad world indeed, particularly as many Vantages are little used and therefore pollute less than many supposedly, 'emissions free' electric vehicles.
All the EVs being charged last night, were taking electricity being generated by burning 65% gas and wood chippings.
Solar panels are of course no use when EV users recharge over night.

My Vantage rests during each winter, so Rachel Reeves very reluctantly goes "further and faster", when handing back half of my VED. smile

Embarassing as it might be, Saga were by far the cheapest I could find. Currently just under £200 to insure my 2006 Vantage for the year.

Interestingly, I do. Saga insured my car fully comp 7000 miles a year for £340 guaranteed price for three years (no break out clause, so could walk away without additional costs to me), yet road tax was somewhere between £600-£700 a year. In all the newer car is cheaper to insure and tax for me. Also, the 2019 car is way better on fuel economy than the 2009 car (4.3) ... I could not get the older car above 22 mpg on a run yet the newer car will return 34 mpg without trying to hard, set at a steady 75 mph indicated on cruise control. When driven like that the car is capable of over 400 miles on a tank.
