M'Off for a thrash on Thursday
Discussion
Flattered by the replies to this week-old post, but - just to bring it up-to-date - it never happened due to a domestic disaster. I spent the day stuck in traffic around the endless roadworks in Harrogate trying to be the good husband. Brownie points, but no hoon.
Another day. perhaps.
However, m'off (actually, we're off...) on Saturday to the Picos and Pyrenees and to visit some old friends in France.

SWMBO is away overnight, forecast is excellent, so off to traverse some of my favourite bits of tarmac. Might even take the drone to see if I can get some interesting shots.
Fine weather, top down, deserted roads, blaring Dad-(Grandad...)-rock - what's not to like? Give me a wave if we pass!

The B6277 and B6278 are my go to roads en route to the Highlands. The former if I'm going via Glasgow, the latter via Edinburgh. Fine weather, top down, deserted roads, blaring Dad-(Grandad...)-rock - what's not to like? Give me a wave if we pass!
I'm guessing the route off the bottom of the map is from/to Scotch Corner. Unless there is a reason to stop in Barnard Castle I always give it a miss.
I'm not a fan of the A66. Too much traffic and the 50mph single carriageway section past the Fox Hall Inn is a PITA especially if you're stuck in a queue behind a HGV.
This is the way I go - https://maps.app.goo.gl/wMVefd8gNjksrwmy6 - although it's 3 miles longer it has the following advantages.
Less traffic and plenty of overtaking opportunities if you do encounter any dawdlers. It's actually a tad quicker than via Barnard Castle as well.
A proper B road blast for 90% of the route.

Good choice! I forgot about that nice bit of road from Eggleston-Staindrop.A proper B road blast for 90% of the route.
We had Sunday lunch in Piercebridge not long ago.

I have to admit, even as a local I haven't done that little stretch as I always seem to be approaching Eggleston or Piercebridge from a different direction, never linking the two together. I shall have to give it a whirl soon.We had Sunday lunch in Piercebridge not long ago.
