I've got 3 retractable hose pipes at our house. All different makes (incl hozelock), which now refuse to retract the full hose. Is there a particular brand which does as it should, and for more than a couple of years?! If so, please let me know....

Stick with a manual wind one.

Just want to ask, you are leaving the nozzle open?

My Gardena wall mounted retractable reel has lasted well. Now 6 years old at least. Though I do tend to run it through an old rag when retracting to try to keep the grit out it. Still retracts smoothly and quickly.

Hozelock still works for me. Got to make sure the hose is 'empty'.

Yes, of course I empty the house first and also clean them to ensure no grit enters. But I still have issues. I'll maybe reduce the length of hose to prolonge the life a bit more.

I may even take one apart and investigate. There must be a weak spring or something which I imagine would be easily replaced...

Just replaced my hoselock one for the gardenia one.

Half price and seems to have a very strong retract!

I have a 60m hose it takes about 1 min to wind onto a decent hand operated hose winder., hose full or empty.

I really can’t see the point of an auto retract which has do much more faffing about, empty hose, clean hose…then… a thread saying it doesn’t work. rofl

Had it 3 years and it’s been fine.

I have the Gardena. It works nicely; about five years and no issues.
