Lexus UX 300e thoughts
Discussion
Hi
We have owned an Lexus is 250 for 12 yrs now and wife wants a new / newer car . The Lexus has been fab and she would like another if funds allow.
I have been put off by electric for yrs but now being a passanger in a few and reading on the forums etc they not going away and could work, With is still scared and would prefer a Lexus 250H.
It would be our main car ( I have a deisel van ). But she only does around 6000 miles a yr on local trips very rarely anything more that 100miles round trip, maybe max 4 times a yr a 400 mile round trip to see a friend. But I am thinking full electric would be a better option for us ?
I have 25K max to spend and ideally would like a 2year old one, these seem to of dropped loads in price compared to new, which is good for us plus we intend to buy outright plus keep for a long time again if possible.
Kids have flow the nest we do not need a big boot, dont mind about rear seats and head room being tight, live near an Airport and always go abroad on holidays.
I know the range is not great but I am thinking of trying to get a 75kw motor one 2023 or newer. Plus the Chademo charging system does not seem like a great decision from Lexus, But I believe there is an adapter you can get now to convert it to CC if these ever disapear completly or we decide to tour UK more? I can also charge it at home every night on my drive ( once charging box is installed )
Really just looking for advice or anyone who owns an 300e or 250h , or am I being a numpty?
My only others that I may consider is Kia Nio or Hyundai Rio
Many thanks

The Lexus EV offerings are not great because of poor efficiency and the charger type.
If you go for EV I'd be looking at the new shape Niro which will have about 5 years warranty left and an actual 300+ miles range, e.g. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202503250...

We have one and it suits us just fine for what we want it for and pretty much how you describe too. Bigger battery one Takumi spec and when we got it last year 6000 miles 6 months old it cost £26000 from a Lexus main dealer. Fantastic build quality and the ride is smooth ans quiet. We get about 230 / 240 mile in summer. less in the winter.
. It's a second car the Mrs O uses for daily local stuff and grandparent duties. If you buy from Lexus they do a Relax scheme where they lend you a hybrid for 42 days in a 3 year period free so you can use that for some longer trips if needed.
I'd agree with others that Lexus / Toyota are not a the cutting edge of EV's, far from it, but for us, intending to keep the car for 10 years or so, the reliability and build quality / dealer experience will hopefully shine through over the years of ownership as the undoubted advances in Tech won't affect our use of the car one bit.

Test driven one, alongside many of the other EVs.
If the range works for you (it does for many, not everyone needs 200+ miles) and you charge at home (which most EVs should as it’s 1/10th the cost of public chargers), it’s a decent car.
Comfortable drive, interior feels premium, should be reliable. The infotainment system is garbage.
